New Pokémon GO tracking test has rolled out to some players

Pokémon GO was updated yesterday with a few fixes and minor changes, but Niantic didn't bring back the recently removed tracking feature. However, a small subset of users are getting the chance to test a new version of tracking. It seems to be a server-side switch, so you'll just have to cross your fingers and hope you have it. If you're a rural player, though, prepare to be disappointed. This version of "Nearby" is highly dependent on Pokéstops.

[Update: $549.99] Deal Alert: Sony 43" 4K Android TV is down to $579.99 on eBay

Buying a house has taught me that everything is expensive and that you have to do your best to save money at every opportunity. Pennies here, dollars there, a few tenners over there, they all add up nicely when you sit down and do your math. So that's why I am a bit envious of you folks in the US and these frequent deals we keep seeing on Sony TVs.

This one for example is on the 43" XBR-43X830C. This isn't a movie theater TV by any means, but it can do the job for a midsize room just fine.

AOSP changelogs posted for August security patches, developer preview 5, Wear preview 2, and a mystery Lollipop update for the Nexus 10

The odds are pretty good that if you're using a still-supported Nexus device, it's probably running August's security update by now. The factory images became available on Monday of last week and OTAs have been intermittently rolling out since then. The push to AOSP took a little longer and finally included a couple of other tags that were behind schedule. All of the changes have been compiled into their respective lists and the changelogs are ready for perusal.

Google's Android Security Bulletin details the potential vulnerabilities addressed by the August updates, but it's not too rare to see other small bug fixes and adjustments hidden among the changes.

Play Store app's "People" area, +1s on app pages may be getting phased out

It seems that two features of the Google Play Store app, the "People" area and the "+1" option on app listings, are disappearing. At this time, I've personally checked five of my devices, and only one which hadn't been powered on in months still had them.

There is a chance this is a bug or some kind of unforeseen consequence of Google making another change to the Play Store, but it seems much more likely that the removal of these features is completely intentional. Google+ doesn't get much love these days, and Google has dramatically reduced the prominence of it in its various other products, rebranded the "Sign in with Google+" button as just Google, and started to pivot the platform as a whole into more of a meeting place for interest-driven communities rather than a "social network." In light of that, killing off the more social-network-y features of the platform in connected products is only logical.
