Sprint Follows Verizon, Snubs The Nexus One In Favor Of The EVO 4G

It seems as though carriers that were lined up for the Nexus One are dropping like flies. First comes the news that Verizon has chosen to go forward with the HTC Incredible as opposed to Google's own branded device, and now Sprint has dropped the Nexus One too.

Michelle Leff Mermelstein, Sprint's Consumer Products spokeswoman, told Gizmodo that the reason behind the decision was the "upcoming availability of the award-winning Evo 4G," as the two devices were not so different (I had to link that!).

Editorial: The Rise Of The "Cheap" Smartphone Is Finally Here - And That Makes Me Happy

As I sit here in a hip Los Angeles coffee shop across from the seemingly never-ending whooshes and rumbles of LA traffic on a busy boulevard just outside the door, I wonder if $4 is a reasonable price for the latte now sitting in front of me. It does have one of those latte art fern-shaped things on it. Or, at least it looks like a fern to me.

While not a tiny amount of money, it doesn't seem totally unreasonable. (And trust me: $4 for a latte is a respectable price in Los Angeles.) After all, I am availing myself the use of said business's counter, its rather lovely interior inspired by the owner's Taiwanese heritage (well, supposedly), a nice ceramic cup for my beverage, and the generally relaxed atmosphere the place provides.

ASUS Rocks CES With The Low-Price, High-Spec ZenFone 2: 4GB RAM, Lollipop, And Flagship Looks Starting At $199

Despite some impressive tablet, laptop, and combination devices, ASUS has left its smartphones mostly in the budget and mid-range end of the pool. That changes with the Zenfone 2 announcement at CES: while the new device probably won't set the world on fire, it's a definite competitor to offerings from the likes of HTC, Samsung, and LG at an amazing price. The ZenFone 2 is the first phone anywhere to be equipped with 4GB of dual-channel RAM (on the high-end model), and the rest of the specs are no slouch either.

The phone is impressively styled, with a brushed metal body that tapers to just 3.9mm on the edges, not unlike the Moto X.

Nexus 6 Review: Google And Motorola Have Made A Great Big Phone At A Normal Price

Reviewing a Nexus phone is always a daunting task. It’s one of the most important devices of the year for much of the Android community, and it represents - in theory - the very best of what Google has to offer on phones for the respective update period.

I’ll start by saying the Nexus 6 is a great phone, albeit huge. It’s also different from previous Nexus phones in a number of key ways, which I’ll try to cover as faithfully as possible in this review.

Besides just being a great phone, though, the Nexus 6 represents a shift for Google’s Nexus strategy.

AT&T Continues Its Niche Hardware Streak With The ASUS PadFone X Mini, Coming October 24th For $200 Prepaid

Some Americans waited literally years for the weird and wonderful PadFone series to show up on a local carrier... and were finally unsurprised to see AT&T be the only one to bite. (Seriously, between all that Amazon and HTC hardware, AT&T seems like the only American carrier willing to take a little risk.) Now AT&T and ASUS are teaming up again for the slightly smaller version of the phone-tablet docking concept, the PadFone X Mini.

If you don't remember this particular iteration of the PadFone (and we don't blame you, there have been a few), it's the one with a vertically-oriented 7" tablet "dock" instead of the more conventional full-sized tablet form factor.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Review: A Good Phone, But Probably Overpriced

Samsung has seen incredible success with its Android devices over the years. The Korean OEM didn't have to change much from one year to the next, but still the smartphone-consuming public was practically begging to trade up to the latest and greatest Galaxy S. Then something changed with the Galaxy S5—despite being a competent phone in almost every way, sales were below projections. Samsung's profits declined when they should have been skyrocketing. It's time for a change, and the Galaxy Alpha is the first stage.

The Galaxy Alpha is not a replacement for the Galaxy S5, but the two devices have a lot in common.
