HTC Thunderbolt, aka HTC Incredible HD, Shows Up In Early Unboxing Video With Some Interesting Details

HTC Thunderbolt, announced at CES earlier this year, may only seem like it's underpowered compared to the dual-core offerings, but according to a very early unboxing by someone named Michael, it's quite a beast with some very admirable features. I don't know how Michael got his hands on this device so early - perhaps he's a tester, a ninja reviewer, or a VZW employee receiving Thunderbolt training (I'm most likely inclined to side with the latter), but he does spill some interesting details that I've summarized below, conveniently mixed in with some specs.

Oh, and this is the same video that was used in this post to cross reference the UPC codes - ~~the problem was the original 720p video disappeared off the Interwebs only to resurface from ahart814's cache last night, except in a not-as-awesome 360p resolution~~ the original video is back online.

Whoa: Verizon's New VZ Navigator VX Might Just Give Google Navigation A Run For Its Money. Yes, Seriously.

Based on the press release and official video, Verizon's new VZ Navigator VX is awesome. Really awesome. Potentially better than Google Maps 5/Google Navigation - and yes, I can hardly believe I'm saying that either, since the new GMaps combo provides a hell of a punch. But check out the short (just over two minutes) promo video, and you'll see what I mean:

Two major items of note there: first, assuming everything works, then big red did a hell of a job on the app. Second, they've delivered just what we've all been asking for: more Bing! As the video proudly shows, there's a serious degree of Bing integration in the app.

Android Gets Tired Of Sending Texts To Random People, Just Deletes Them Instead

Though Google may have fixed two infamous SMS issues via the recent Android 2.2.2 and 2.3.2 updates, it appears at least one bug is still unconquered. Namely, some users are reporting that when they tap on the "New Message" alert in the notification bar, all their SMS conversations get deleted.

Our tipster experienced this on his HTC Desire Z, but he tells us that two of his friends - one using a Nexus One and the other on a Galaxy S - have come across the same bug. Additionally, several Google Code users have encountered this issue on their Motorola Droids, Droid Incredibles, EVOs, and other Android devices.

[Rumor] HTC Incredible 2 Launching In March; Motorola Droid Bionic, Droid X2 Coming In May

Were the four phones (and the one amazing tablet) Verizon announced at CES not enough for you? Then you'll be happy to hear that Droid Life has unearthed two more devices headed Verizon's way: the Motorola Droid X2 and the HTC Incredible 2.

Unfortunately, the Droid X2 will not feature a LTE radio, although it will pack a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. Interested? Droid Life says Verizon is planning to release the device in May.

As for the Incredible 2, it is said to be an improved version of HTC's original Incredible, complete with a larger screen and a global radio.

CyanogenMod 7: Return Of The Nightlies (Now With 100% More Gingerbread)

Boy, do we ever have some fantastic news for the AOSP ROM-loving crowd: CyanogenMod nightlies are finally back, meaning the first official CM7 builds are rolling out as I type this. Sure, they're probably moderately buggy (although generally, CM nightlies are still pretty good), and yeah, they may be missing some features - but let's be frank: it'll still probably be one of the most solid Gingerbread builds around, regardless of what device you're using.

At the time of this writing, only the myTouch Slide, original Droid, and Nexus One builds have been compiled and are ready for mass consumption.

It doesn't seem like it, but just a year and a few days ago, Google made available the first handset to bear the Nexus name - and what a long way we've come since. When the Nexus One was released, there were cries of "iPhone killer" and of Google entering the handset arena in direct competition with Apple. While the latter assertion remains debatable - the first does not. The Nexus One was a near-total commercial failure next to the iPhone 3GS, and even the original Motorola DROID ate the Nexus One for breakfast in terms of sales.

But the Nexus One changed so much about Android, and the design philosophies of the phones that followed it.

Android Now #1 US Smartphone OS On Millennial's Network, Chitika Is All "LOLWUT"

Every month, mobile advertiser Millennial Media releases their Mobile Mix, a report detailing where things stand in the mobile industry. This month marks a significant first, as well as some all-around good news for Android. Their highlights:

For the first time, Android surpassed iOS as the largest Smartphone OS on the Millennial network, with an 8% increase month-over-month and 46% impression share on our network in December. The iOS currently has a 32% share

Android ad requests grew 141% from Q3 to Q4 and since January, Android has grown 3130%

Android devices represented 16 of the top 30 mobile devices on the Millennial network

When breaking down the revenue generated by apps in Q4—Android had a 55% share as opposed to 39% for Apple.

Editorial: iPhone 4 Is Coming To Verizon Wireless - Should Android Be Worried?

The big question on everyone's mind (well, at least ours) today is: How will the iPhone coming to Verizon next month change the smartphone landscape? At this point, it's anyone's guess, but Android's unabashed domination on the US's largest wireless carrier will certainly be challenged in the coming months. However, there are significant forces at work that won't exactly help the iPhone with its Verizon debut - namely, Verizon and Android. That's not to say the Verizon iPhone won't be a success, it's just a question of exactly how much of a success it will be. Here's our take.

HTC Thunderbolt Photos Leak, Still Looking Sexy

There's not much left to leak about Verizon's upcoming LTE phone, the HTC Thunderbolt (previously thought to be called "Incredible HD" or "Mecha"), but some high-quality pictures can't hurt, can they?

You can check out the phone in all its glory by hitting the source link, but you won't find anything surprising - we've already heard about the kickstand, 4G LTE connectivity, and front-facing camera. Still, it's definitely a nice-looking device, and we can always hope that HTC will somehow manage to shove in a dual core processor.
