Google Voice now has improved spam call filtering

No one likes spam calls, and Google knows that. You may recall that last year, Google added a warning in the Phone app for when a suspected spam caller was ringing. Now the company is bringing that same feature to Google Voice.

Attack of the Bots: Facebook introduces new bots and new bot features in Messenger at F8

Facebook has released a whole lot of information from their latest F8 developer conference, and it looks like their drive to turn Messenger into its own platform for development is continuing full steam ahead. The conference started today and continues into tomorrow, but Facebook has already pushed out a number of press releases based on some of the things talked about there. Notable announcements include a Discovery tab in Messenger for finding more bots, QR code support, "Chat Extensions" that add bots into a group conversation, FAQ for bots, a VR demo, and more ways to use the M personal assistant.

Sky Go app gets visual refresh, 7-day TV guide, and remote record in version 6.0

For viewers in the UK, the TV landscape is infinitely less cluttered compared with our American counterparts. Multiple time zones, networks, and providers in the US make things far more complex than in the UK. The strength of free-to-air TV means that a much smaller percentage of Brits actually pay for a satellite or cable service. For those who do, the dominant provider is Sky, whose Android app has just been updated. Version 6.0.9 brings with it a visual overhaul, full 7-day guide, and remote record/download.

Comcast's new Xfinity xFi app gives you more control over your home network

Changing your network settings, especially on a per-device basis, isn't easily possible unless you have a newer router - like the Google Wifi. For Xfinity customers using one of the standard Wireless Gateways, you could change basic settings from the Xfinity Account app, but not much else. Now Comcast has released a new app, xFi, that gives customers far greater control over their home network.

Facebook is experimenting with picture-in-picture video [Update]

Facebook used to be a place where you posted text updates and put stupid stickers all over your profile page. Increasingly, the social network wants to be a place for video. For instance, there's video casting, offline caching, and the recent decision to make videos on the news feed play sound. Now, Facebook is testing picture-in-picture video so you can keep browsing while watching.

[Deal Alert] ZTE Axon 7 is $330 at eBay ($70 off MSRP)

I don't usually get super excited about deal posts, but this is a good one for one of my favorite phones. eBay has a sale going on the ZTE Axon 7 today for $330, which is a great price. The seller is even Newegg. Last time this deal was $350.

If you're after a device with a Snapdragon 820, 64GB storage, 4GB RAM, an unlockable bootloader, and ROM support for a decent price your selection pretty much boils down to this and the OP3T, and the latter runs a good $110 more. We noted in our review that this phone isn't without its drawbacks, though.

HBO Go and HBO Go for Android TV get big updates with ability to resume a series, binge mode, and more

HBO Go isn't a very good app—this is the harsh truth. Yet, people put up with it because HBO has content that they want to see. The app is getting an update today (standard and Android TV) that adds some long overdue features. We could complain that HBO Go is just now getting binge mode, or we could be thankful it's here. That's actually a lie; we can do both.

Google is testing a new, more compact weather card

The Google app feed (formerly known as Google Now) includes relevant bits of data from around the web and culled from your own data. One card we almost all have is weather, and Google looks to be experimenting with a new version of that one. Rather than the large card with the forecast, the new one is a single line with a few bits of relevant information.

Remove Airplane Passenger is the game United really doesn't need right now

You're a cop — well, a security guard, but you act like you're a cop — working the beat for a low-brow North American airline. Standards have slipped over the years, your idealism long-worn away by the tough airline carpets. You're old and you're tired, and your eyes have grown equally tired exactly when they need to, if you take my meaning. You see what you need to see, and you do what you need to do in those long airport halls at night. Who else are they gonna trust, the TSA?
