[New App] Classic, Open Source, Multi-Console Game Emulator 'RetroArch' Makes Its Way To Android

If you're into classic games – everything from arcade throwbacks to more modern Playstation titles – then you may have a handful of game emulators installed on your various devices. Now, thanks to an open source, multi-console emulator called RetroArch that just made its way to Android after six months in the making, you can do away with the collection of emulators and get all your old school gaming action in one place.

Some of you may actually already be familiar with RetroArch, as it's available on basically every platform in existence, including:

[New Game] Gene Effect Is The Protoss Probe Simulator You Never Knew You Wanted To Play

You may have gathered from one or two of our previous posts that there are some Starcraft fanatics lurking around the offices of Android Police (and shouting things like "power overwhelming!" from the editor's desk). So when we saw what's basically a Metroid-style side-scroller apparently starring everyone's favorite autonomous crystal harvester, we had to jump on it. Gene Effect doesn't star an actual Probe, but there's plenty of potential in the game even so, especially if you're a fan of exploration and eye candy.

The game looks like it's got a bit less hustle than the standard "guns out" action platformer, so those who are looking for a relaxing time might be interested.

3 Reasons To Be Excited For NVIDIA's Project Shield - And 3 Reasons Not To Be

Like a lot of you, I watched NVIDIA's press conference with my jaw firmly on the floor when Project Shield was unveiled. It's a true Android gaming portable, built from the ground up to make a great gaming experience - not a phone or a tablet that also plays games, with varying degrees of efficiency, like Sony's now outdated Xperia Play or Archos' Gamepad. And it's made by NVIDIA, the company with the most to gain by expanding the platform's gaming horizons. The potential embodied by Shield is amazing... but there are also some reasons to to curb your enthusiasm.

[CES 2013] NVIDIA Shows Off Madfinger's Dead Trigger 2 For The Tegra 4, Complete With Godzombie [Update: Release Timeline And More Details]

NVIDIA slipped a surprise into their CES press conference this evening: a short and sweet look at Dead Trigger 2. As the only technical demo for the screaming Tegra 4 platform, it looked mighty impressive - based on the streaming video, the graphics look just a little behind the Xbox 360/Playstation 3 level. The short demo video showed live game video of the player wielding an M4 machine gun to dispatch an enormous building-sized zombie.

Unfortunately, Madfinger wasn't on hand to elaborate, so anything beyond the brief look here is speculation. Based on the success of the original zombie shooter, they'll probably be using the same free-to-play model as before.

Developer HyperDevBox Studio Slashes Prices On Its Massive RPG Games (Such As Spectral Souls) By 50%

If you're into massive, sprawling strategy RPG's, HyperDevBox Studio's Spectral Souls, Blazing Souls, and Generation of Chaos are titles you may already own. If you don't, though, now's probably the best time to invest, as HyperDev has slashed prices on its entire library by 50%.

The price drop brings all three of the developer's games down to near as makes no difference to $7 apiece, and all of them are top-quality ports of old JRPG's from the original PlayStation. So you know you're getting games that actually received some serious attention in terms of story, visual, and audio quality, as well as amount of playable content.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City Review: A Classic Never Goes Out Of Style

Parachute pants, big hair and pastel sport coats might not be the height of fashion these days, but ten years ago gamers were in the midst of a digital revival. Grand Theft Auto Vice City rode on the massive (and well-deserved) success of GTAIII with a fresh setting, a more character-driven story and a refined sandbox world that makes it a series favorite even today. Those who want to relive the glory days of the 1980s (and 2002) can download the game on Google Play for just five bucks.

Does Vice City live up to expectations? Well, yes and no. The technical aspects of the game, and Rockstar's ambitious commitment to the sandbox style, haven't aged well.

[New App] EA Sports Releases Football Club Companion App For FIFA 2013 Console And PC Games

Here in the States digital jocks tend to obsess over the latest Madden or 2K titles. But pretty much everywhere else, it's all about the soccer action in FIFA. Electronic Arts is well aware of this, so they've bundled the EA Sports Football Club into the full versions of FIFA 2013. The Football Club is a combination fantasy league and digital marketplace. As of now, you don't even need to be playing the game to access it - the new Football Club app is available in both North American and worldwide flavors.

First of all, this app shouldn't be confused with EA's more conventional FIFA game for Android - you'll need a copy of FIFA 2013 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC just to log in.

The impressive, stylish visuals, unique gameplay and awesome music are still remember fondly by my generation. Now that Android hardware has caught up to and in many ways surpassed the old beige box, Sega has re-released Jet Set Radio for the mobile world. You can pick it up on the Google Play Store for $4.99.

Hamilton's Great Adventure THD Review: A Puzzle Game That's Heavy On Charm... And Frustration

It's time for yet another Nvidia-only game with the "THD" label, and like the excellent Zombie Driver, it's a pilgrim from the PC and console shores. Hamilton's Great Adventure has been a sleeper hit on Steam and the PlayStation 3, thanks to its adventure game presentation and challenging, go-at-your-own-pace puzzle structure. You follow the exploits of ~~Indiana~~ Hamilton and his pet bird Sasha, as they trounce around ancient ruins in search of the Fluxatron, which Hamilton's professor buddy needs to finish his Transmorphanizer. For some reason. THe game is available today in two parts, at $3.99 each.

Gameplay boils down to finding the best path through each level for Hamilton, while switching to a bird's eye view with Sasha to explore the level and open up the path.
