Spotify is testing a redesigned now playing screen with full-screen album art

The Spotify app isn't bad, per se, but it could probably be better (similar to certain other music apps). It's good, then, that the company is testing a new material-esque now playing screen, which looks much improved compared to the old one.

It would appear this is being A/B tested at the moment, due to it being randomly turned on for certain users. It is not clear what version is running on this phone - no Android Police team members have this on their specific Spotify app install.

[Deal Alert] Get a new Moto Z Play for just $399.99 ($50 off), or save an additional $60 for one in mint condition

Even though I own a Moto Z, I must admit that it isn't exactly the most compelling flagship offering out there. Not only does it lack a headphone jack and have terrible battery life because it's so damn thin, it's priced at an astronomically high $699.99 (though, to be fair, it can be found for sale at a much lower price).

The Moto Z Play, on the other hand, is an entirely different story. As Ryan found, it corrects most of the Moto Z's shortcomings, while managing to come in at a much lower MSRP of $449.99. Now, with discounts of $50 on new units and $110 on slightly used ones, there's never been a better time to pick a Z Play up.

SystemPanel 2 now in public beta, mostly a visual makeover

For years, NextApp's SystemPanel has been a popular way to quickly monitor almost all aspects of an Android device. The app supports monitoring running applications, hardware information, network activity, and more. But like many pro tools for Android (looking at you, Titanium Backup), the interface is a bit dated.

Google Assistant on Android TV supports continuous conversation mode

By far one of the most annoying aspects of Google Now and Assistant is that you have to speak "OK Google," before every command. Even though Now and Assistant can continue conversations based on context (for example, you can follow up "Who is the president?" with "How old is he?"), you still have to say "OK Google" before asking anything.

Two months after the Google Home's release, it still can't perform many basic tasks

When Google Assistant was first unveiled at Google I/O last year, it promised to be a more natural voice assistant - similar to Siri, Alexa, Cortana, etc. It also serves as an Alexa competitor, with Google positioning Assistant for use with third-party devices and services. Right now, Google Assistant is officially available on Google's Pixel phones, the Google Home, Google's Allo chat application, and soon Android TV.

Google's 'Trusted Voice' feature keeps turning off for some users

The OK Google command is great, but I think we'd all agree that it can be a little... temperamental at times. Our Glorious Leader Artem recently took to Google+ to air his grievances about Trusted Voice, the feature that recognizes your voice and unlocks your phone accordingly.

Logitech Circle review: A great all-around home security camera (after some updates)

Logitech has been making cameras of the web variety for years, and it recently got into the home security camera market with Logitech Circle. The initial reviews were alright, but Logitech was lacking some important features that other cameras had. I guess it took the criticism to heart because a series of app and firmware updates have added lots of new stuff to the existing hardware. It's actually gotten much more capable, and the pricing remains competitive. Taking another look at Logitech Circle, it's a great option for home video monitoring.

Fitbit announces improved community aspect with groups and personal goal setting

One of the strongest aspects of the Fitbit experience is the social element where you can check your rank among friends, engage in challenges over a day, week, the weekend, the holidays, or more, and taunt or encourage each other along the way. But unlike several other fitness services, Fitbit has never had a proper community with groups, posts, individual shares and comments. That is about to change now.

At CES, the company announced a new Community section that takes the Friends section to the next level. There, you can check a feed of shared posts and images from your friends, discover and participate in workouts by professionals, and join groups to help each other toward specific goals.
