Comcast planning to launch wireless service as Verizon MVNO next year

You know how everyone absolutely loves Comcast and never complains about its cable service? Soon, you'll be able to do even more business with Comcast as the company launches an MVNO using a combination Verizon LTE and WiFi. In seriousness, I don't know who in their right mind wants this. Comcast's CEO has confirmed it's happening, though.

[Deal Alert] Get a Verizon unlocked LG V10 for just $299.99 ($430 off) at Best Buy

The V10 is a massively underrated phone; it excels in a number of arenas where other phones fall flat on their faces. Spec-wise, it's not as nice as the recently announced V20, but have fun trying to get one of those for under $300 in the near future. If you're looking for an affordable flagship, the Verizon LG V10 will be waiting for you at Best Buy for a price of $299.99.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge may not be the hottest phones on the block anymore (that title goes to the Note7, both literally and figuratively), but they're still excellent smartphones. They've been highly rated by almost everyone who's touched them, including David (which, if you know David, is pretty rare). Now, you can pick up the desirable US unlocked (SM-G93xU) Galaxy S7 and S7 edge for just $369.99 and $429.99, respectively, from Best Buy.

WhatsApp adds user mentions for group conversations

One of the features we've been expecting WhatsApp to add is the support for mentions in group conversations. That way, not only you would be able to quote someone or some specific message, you'd also be able to directly address a contact inside a group to get their attention. This feature is now live in the latest WhatsApp beta v2.16.272.

When you're in a group chat, try typing the symbol @ and you'll get a list of all the participants in that chat. You can tap any of them or just type the first letters of anyone's name and it'll narrow down to them.

'Messenger' by Luke Klinker is an SMS app that syncs across all your devices and the web

Text messaging applications are a dime a dozen. Luke Klinker, the developer behind Talon for Twitter and EvolveSMS, is working on another SMS app. Simply entitled 'Messenger' while in testing (the final release will have another name), this app allows you to use SMS on your phone, tablet, Android TV, through a web app, and even with a Chrome extension. It's official: Google publishes teaser video for October 4th event with obvious phone allusion

Google has now confirmed that the company is holding an event on October 4th, as we first reported on September 1st. The teaser video announcing the date doesn't reveal much but the silhouette of, you guessed it, a phone. Google has also created a webpage for the event at madeby.google.com, reaffirming that the company plans to market its new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones as "made by Google." You can sign up on the event page to be on the mailing list for announcements related to the new Pixel devices.

Though we know the phones are manufactured by HTC, Google's use of the Pixel brand suggests they will be debuted as the first phones designed by the company.

[Not Allo] Yahoo Messenger can now send video, if you happen to use it

Until today, I had no idea Yahoo Messenger even existed. But it most certainly exists, and if you happen to use it, you might be excited to learn you can now send video. The iOS and Android apps now support sending video, up to one minute long, in both one-on-one and group conversations.

Yahoo Messenger is pretty much your average messaging client, but there are some neat features. You can "unsend" messages and media in a conversation, it supports Google TalkBack, and there's even a native client for Windows and Mac. Which Hangouts still doesn't have, after all these years.
