Sprint rolled out support for Wi-Fi calls to a couple of handsets this February, but all other devices that don't already have the feature require a dedicated software update. Fortunately for Galaxy S5 owners, the carrier has announced plans to bring support over to this flagship device. The S5 will be able to make calls and send text messages over registered Wi-Fi networks following an over-the-air update (version G900PVPU1ANE5) that's scheduled to start rolling out today. Read More
AT&T and Verizon, with their insistence on locked bootloaders for Android devices, are the scourge of the Android customization scene. Unfortunately they're also the largest carriers in the United States, which leaves a lot of Android power users in a pickle. If you're on either carrier and rocking a branded Galaxy S5, today is your lucky day: someone's gone and made a near-universal and amazingly simple root method that should work for the S5 (and more) on both carriers. Mobile rumor master Evleaks is at it again, showing off what appears to be a press render of the Samsung "Galaxy F." The photo shows a phone that looks very much like a slightly larger Galaxy S5 with a metal (or at least metal-looking) rear cover, in a "perfect golden" white-on-gold color scheme. The pulse oximeter beneath the rear camera indicates that this is a high-end Samsung phone, possibly a premium alternative to the Galaxy S5 or a replacement for the next Galaxy Note. Read More
Last week we took an initial look at Handy Apps' latest money management tool, called Expense IQ. It's essentially the successor to the company's popular EZ Money application, but it packs a few more bells and whistles under its hood (along with an all-new interface). Today we want to talk about a few more features of Expense IQ, like bill reminders, budgets, and the handy homescreen widget.
We've all forgotten to make a payment at one point or another, which sucks, because as punishment for your forgetfulness, most companies smack you with a late fee so you won't do it again. Read More
Back in April, owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active were treated to the ultimate tease when an update to Android 4.4 KitKat began rolling out, only to be put on hold a few days later. The only explanation was a claim that AT&T and Samsung were "looking into potential improvements." It looks like the time has come -again- for the S4 Active to make the jump to KitKat.
Holy crap, that was fast. According to a flood of tips we just received, at least some owners of Google Play Edition devices are now seeing updates to over-the-air Android 4.4.3. The latest incremental update to KitKat was just published yesterday - some Nexus devices don't even have it. At the time of writing (Tuesday afternoon US) we've been told that the Google Play Editions of the HTC One M7 (2013 model) and the Galaxy S4 are receiving over-the-air updates. Read More
A week ago T-Mobile halted a relatively minor OTA update for the Galaxy S5 after some users who installed it started to suffer from reduced data speeds. Now it looks like the carrier is pushing out a new version of the update that doesn't contain the affliction. It goes by the rather lengthy name of software version G900TUVU1ANE6, a string of letters and numbers that is only one digit off from the previous G900TUVU1ANE5. Read More
You've got a lot of options for high-end Android devices just at the moment, with the HTC One M8 out and the LG G3 coming soon. But if you want something for Verizon right now and your funds are limited, you could do a lot worse than the Samsung Galaxy S5. Amazon's wireless portal has the phone on Big Red for just fifty bones, assuming you're a new customer or you're adding a new phone line. Read More
The Galaxy S5 Active, Samsung's much-leaked ruggedized version of its latest flagship, is now official, and available from AT&T in three colors - Camo Green, Ruby Red, and Titanium Gray.
Just like the previous entry in the Active family, the S5 Active is water and dust resistant, and looks quite capable of taking some abuse. The S5 Active, as you may guess, is essentially the Galaxy S5 in a rougher, tougher chassis. Read More
