Even though it's only been two days since cvpcs first unveiled CyanogenMod 7 running on the Droid X, it seems that he has already worked out enough of the kinks to release the first beta/RC version to the masses. The flashing process is a bit more complex compared to other phone/ROM combos, but well worth the added trouble if you ask me. Everything you're seeing here today would have been impossible without the "2nd init" hack, which cvpcs explains in detail here.

evo 3d

If you're planning on picking up an EVO 3D on June 24, you might want to set aside some cash to grab this sleek-looking desktop dock to go with it. The HTC-made accessory is currently listed as "coming soon" on Best Buy's website, so chances are you'll be able to pick one up on launch day.

The dock uses a 5-pin microUSB port for charging that is also MHL adapter-compatible (read more about this snazzy microUSB and microHDMI hybrid here), and despite the plastic construction, looks damn sexy doing it.

With the impending launch of the HTC EVO 3D, other Sprint phones in the same price point are starting to look a bit... lackluster. Fortunately, there are always killer deals out there for those looking to score a new phone without breaking the bank. This is exactly the case for the HTC EVO Shift 4G from Amazon Wireless - sign a new two-year agreement, get the phone for $40. This is a solid deal, especially when you consider that Sprint is willing to pay you if you switch before June 23rd.

Pax Britannica for Android is a port of the open-source game of the same name. Marketed as "the one button strategy game," Pax lives up to its word. Players take control of an underwater factory ship that is locked in combat with another ship of similar function.

Each ship it outfitted with a dial which allows it to spawn individual ships. This is accomplished by a player pressing and holding their finger on their assigned section of the screen: the needle on the dial unwinds clockwise, and each quadrant of the dial spawns a different ship.

Google held a press conference today where several new search features were unveiled, including some pretty nice improvements to the Google Mobile site. Among these features is the addition of Google Places on the main Google page, with quick links to areas of common interest at the bottom. Tapping any of the icons uses geolocation to provide results specific to the area that you're in.

Also announced were improved search capabilities in the browser and the ability to add additional details to Instant results by tapping the plus sign next to the suggestion that you wish to alter.

Just when you thought you were sick and tired of Angry Birds news (I certainly was), Rovio Mobile has unveiled an intriguing new spin on the classic throw-the-birds-at-the-pigs gameplay, and it involves the much-ballyhooed NFC chip found in the Nexus S.

It's not available just yet, but it appears that in future releases of Angry Birds, you'll be able to utilize a previously Nokia-exclusive feature called "Magic." Simply bump your phone against a friend's to unlock new levels or share existing gameplay elements.

Fans of the Heroes of Might and Magic series, you may want to sit down for this one. Mere months after so successfully porting the Heroes of Might and Magic 2 (HOMM2) game engine to Android (see our review), the very same developer, a brilliant man by the name of pelya, now managed to do the same with the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 engine, dubbed VCMI.

A few months ago, Motorola announced that its "portfolio of devices" will be graced with unlockable/relockable bootloaders in late 2011. However, there was some confusion over whether this concerned future handsets only or current devices as well.

Yesterday, Ausdroid reported that unlocked bootloaders will be coming to all existing Motorola Android devices (or rather, those still on Moto's update schedule) later this year via a software update. Needless to say, this was excellent news, and it had many a DROID X user jumping for joy.

Ever since we saw Toshiba's then-unnamed tablet at CES in January, we've carefully put our ears to the ground to learn all we can about this surprisingly capable device. Today's Thrive news, then, has us excited - pre-orders have started, and all iterations of the tablet (8/16/32GB) will be shipping on the same yet-to-be-announced date next month (Toshiba's site now says "Mid-July").

Update: HTC backpedaled on this issue quicker than ever before and announced plans to follow through with the Gingerbread upgrade after all.

Are you ready for some Tuesday morning bad news? If you own an HTC Desire, brace yourself -- it looks like your dreams of ever seeing Gingerbread officially hit your device have been crushed. I know it stings, but here is the official word from the HTC UK Facebook page:

Our engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience you’ve come to expect from our phones.
