If you've been holding out on that Acer Iconia A100 purchase for the price to lower a little more, now might be your chance to pick up a pretty sweet deal from Walmart. Effective from Sunday, August 14th through to Saturday, August 20th, you can grab the tablet for just $328 and get a $50 gift card for free while you're at it. For the mathematically lazy, that effectively makes the price just $278.

MIUI, one of Android's most popular custom ROM flavors, has been limited to purely software for existing devices... until today. Made by a Chinese company Xiaomi which has been in charge of MIUI's software development, the MIUI phone was just announced in China (where Xiaomi is based), and I must say - it's no hush puppy and leaves us highly impressed.

First and foremost, the MI-ONE, or Millet, sports a whopping 1.5GHz dual-core MSM8260 Scorpion CPU (from the 3rd generation Snapdragon family).

Steve Kondik, better known as Cyanogen, the father of CyanogenMod, has posted an interesting update to his professional life on his Facebook page. Steve, who has founded the largest family of custom Android ROMs on the planet, has just joined Samsung Mobile to presumably work on Android-related goodies for one of world's largest electronics manufacturers.

It's only fitting to see the two masters of their own domains join forces, so here's to hoping the fruits of their labor are going to be beautiful and exciting for us, Android users.

We've highlighted a few deals of the Toshiba Thrive before, but Amazon just slashed the price of all three versions - 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB - to the lowest yet.

Regardless of which variant you've been looking at, Amazon is definitely the way to go if you plan on buying any time soon -- the 8GB version is going for $370, 16GB's for $430, and the 32GB variant will set you back $500.

So, here's a new one: Samsung has apparently halted the TouchWiz UX update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in order to "assess progress and ensure it's a positive experience for customers." We're not entirely sure what that means on a realistic level, but I'll go out on a limb and assume they found some sort of bug -- possibly one that is making some Tabs unusable by scrambling the graphics.

Zorro is a fictional character with a long and storied history. I mean, the character was created in 1919, spawned countless adaptations and inspired Batman, for god's sake: the man in black is frequently associated with the fierce swordplay and the volatile colonial era of Spanish California.

Zorro: Shadow of Vengeance is a side-scrolling adventure in which you play as an anime-styled version of the classic Mexican hero, Zorro.

A few weeks ago, we heard a rumor that Motorola was working on a beefier version of the super rugged Defy, simple called the Defy+. Those rumors were realized today, as Moto official announced this new incarnation to the Defy line, complete with a faster processor and an upgraded shell.

The Defy+ will rock a 1GHz processor "that runs 25% faster" than the current Defy, Android 2.3.x, a 5MP rear shooter, 2GB built-in storage, and a 1700mAh battery underneath its 3.7 inch shell.

Last week, an HTC support representative told a customer that the Droid Incredible would not be updated to Gingerbread. Of course, we questioned this claim's validity, as we were absolutely certain that there was a test build on Verizon's servers at the time the statement was issued.

Turns out we were right, as the official update page is now live on Big Red's website. This is pretty good news for Incredible owners -- but the better news is that it's probably coming sooner than you think; possibly as early as this week.

It seems HTC has made good on its commitment to begin unlocking the bootloaders of its recently released handsets, starting with the European version of the HTC Sensation. You can find the instructions at HTC's developer portal, here. (You may need to log in). Also, here are the scary things you'll have to disclaim before beginning:

So, as long as you realize that your warranty will/might be voided all or in part, get cracking.

Hot on the heels of its acquisition of Motorola for $12.5 billion this morning, Google has announced on its blog that Android is now running on 150 million devices worldwide.

That figure is up a whopping 20 million on last month's 130 million, with the post also mentioning that an additional 550,000 units are being activated every day across 123 countries (though we already knew that).

With these numbers, there's no doubt that the growth of Android is as strong as it ever has been, and it goes without saying that the death of our favorite platform has been greatly exaggerated.
