Not all classics need to be updated. Sometimes, an adherence to simplistic (yet addictive) game design will win out over flashy graphics any day.

The Pitch

ApzOrb is an update of the traditional "Snake" game that most of us have played on monochrome cellphone screens. However, instead of entertaining us with different shades of grey, this game has made color a vital part of how the game plays.

Instead of having to eat apples to extend the length of your block-snake, you seek out squares of similar colors.

Motorola is apparently hard at work on another high-end handset known as the DROID HD - and boy, is it a good-looking piece of kit. Just take a look:

Left to right: DROID BIONIC, DROID HD

The DROID HD appears to be what the DROID X2 should have been - namely, much better in every respect. While it may have a qHD display (not confirmed - just presumed), in almost every other conceivable way, the HD looks like the Moto handset to have.

So, here's the deal: our friends over at AmazonWireless are having a contest in which they will be giving away $15k in cold hard cash. Since it will be difficult to decide who wins all by their lonesome, they pinged us and asked if we'd like to sit on the panel of judges. Naturally, we accepted the offer, because, well... why wouldn't we?

The Deetz

Ah, so you're curious as to what this contest is all about?

For most, the idea of losing their mobile device is devastating. Users tend to panic at the idea of things like personal messages, contacts, photos, and internet passwords falling into the wrong hands. Luckily there is an abundance of security apps in the Android Market created specifically to combat such a scenario (and hopefully help in getting your device back). But this abundance poses another question: which one is right for me?

Another week, another giveaway. This time we're giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (16GB, Wi-Fi) courtesy of Simply Applied - developers of the apps Sign and CritiCall.

Sign is a gesture-based texting and dialing application, allowing you to associate a drawn figure with calling or texting a particular contact. CritiCall is another handy app, one that I'm considering buying now that I've taken a look at it. While your phone is on silent mode, it allows phone calls and texts from pre-selected contacts to override silent and play ringtones and notifications normally.

HTC-Amaze-4G

According to a reliable PocketNow tipster, an upcoming HTC phone codenamed Ruby is set to land on T-Mobile under the moniker Amaze 4G. That's a mighty strong word to live up to, but after seeing the rumored specs of this monster, I pretty sure it will be able to fit the bill with room to spare:

  • 4.3 inch qHD display
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8MP rear shooter with dedicated hardware button

The Amaze is rumored to hitting T-Mo retail stores on October 26th alongside the Samsung Hercules, in what is sure to be one beast of a day.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is one of the finest Android tablets in existence right now. It's well supported, has a nice selection of accessories (both currently available and upcoming), and it feels great in the hand thanks to its ultra-thin profile. While most retailers are selling the 16GB variant for around $500, there is a deal on eBay's Daily Deals site featuring this tablet for $430 with free shipping, which is the lowest price that we've seen yet.

After Apple decided to sue HTC last month in Delaware for patent infringement, it seems the handset maker is preparing to put on a little bit of high-profile litigation of its own.

This morning, HTC filed a claim in the U.S. District Court in Delaware alleging three counts of patent infringement against Apple, seeking all the typical damages bells and whistles that makes it sound like the world as we know it is at stake.

This morning, as part of the ongoing Samsung v Apple patent litigation, the German court responsible for imposing a ban on Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales in the EU has backpedaled, temporarily lifting the injunction enjoining Samsung from distributing its flagship tablet in the European Union.

Why? It appears the German court decided that it may lack the authority to enjoin Samsung's Korean parent corporation under the EU's regulations regarding international jurisdiction.
