£50k Fine Slapped On Firm Responsible For Fake Angry Birds And Other Play Store Games That Sent Premium SMS Messages

Fake apps in the Play Store are nothing new. We've seen countless fakes hit the Store, many of which contained some form of malware used to steal user data, or worse, charge premium features to their bill. A Latvian firm is now being fined for the latter due to fake apps designed to look like Angry Birds Space, Cut the Rope, and Assassin's Creed.

After downloading one of the aforementioned apps, though, the user wasn't greeted by flying birds or a hungry frog, but instead... nothing. The apps did absolutely nothing in the foreground. Little did the users who installed these apps know that they were being scammed behind the scenes.

Logitech Z515 Bluetooth Speaker Lighting Review: Twice The Size Of The Jawbone Jambox, But At Half The Price

I use my Android devices to stream music and movies a lot. However, the sound quality directly from a phone or tablet leaves much to be desired, to say the least. For that, you could just wire in some earbuds, but that doesn't help if you're trying to listen to music or watch a flick with other people. In that case, you need an external source of sound. Enter the Logitech Z515 Bluetooth speaker.

I've spent the last couple of weeks using this speaker on a daily basis, and I have to say, I'm quite impressed with what it has to offer for the money.

Millennial Media Report Shows Android As Top OS, Galaxy Tab As Number 2 Tablet

If we told you that Android was the number one mobile OS worldwide, you shouldn't really be surprised by this point. By most metrics, the little green guy has overtaken the competition in just about every area, including sales, actual userbase, and ad impressions, as demonstrated here by Millenial Media's report. There are a couple surprises in the report, though.

For starters, while the iPad being the top ranked tablet is no surprise, the Galaxy Tab beating out the Kindle Fire is. The model in the report appears to be the original Galaxy Tab. The seven inch slate running Gingerbread.

Google Adds In-App Subscription Support, Managed Through The Play Store

About a year ago, Apple debuted in-app subscriptions on its App Store - now Google is following suit with the introduction of in-app subscription support on the Play Store. Developers can take advantage of this system very easily, by simply adding a subscription option to their apps with a price and billing period (subscriptions will show up for users in their Play Store under a new category). Google takes care of the rest - all subscriptions are auto-renewing, and can be managed by users through the Play Store interface.

Bigger developers can utilize an HTTP support API to hook in-app subscriptions into backend enterprise servers for validation and cancellation (read: DRM), as well as to make multi-platform subscriptions easier to manage.

Sprint's HTC EVO 4G LTE Supports Simultaneous Voice And Data Over 3G

The EVO fan blog Good and EVO is reporting that simultaneous voice calling and 3G data (SV-DO) is working on Sprint's HTC EVO 4G LTE. Some of you may be aware that unlike GSM carriers (e.g. AT&T), CDMA carriers (e.g. Sprint) are unable to serve voice and data over 3G simultaneously. So if you were on a CDMA device talking to someone, it would be impossible for you to connect to the internet. Verizon Wireless became one of the first CDMA carriers to offer both voice and data over its 3G networks when it launched the HTC Thunderbolt, early last year.
