Anyone who has been using a PC for even a short amount of time has probably heard of PowerDVD from CyberLink -- if you haven't, go check it out, I'll wait.

Back? Okay, now that you're more familiar with what PowerDVD is all about, you'll be glad to know that it has made its way to Honeycomb powered tablets, and it's packed with features. With the official app, you can:

  • Wirelessly stream media from PowerDVD on the PC to your tablet
  • Wirelessly save MP4 videos, photos, and music from PowerDVD on the PC
  • Watch videos and play music with the native players
  • Touchup photos with one-click enhancements
  • Create playlists and manage your media library
  • Share content from your tablet to your DLNA TV
  • ...and more

ss-1280-0-0 ss-1280-5-0 ss-1280-6-0

That pretty much covers the gamut of mobile media viewing, but with the vast amount of features offered by PowerDVD, you can expect an equally large pricetag to go along with it -- $20, to be exact.

Android Open

Over the past few years, Android has grown from a small project in Palo Alto, CA into the most popular smartphone platform on the planet. As such, developers all over the world have taken interest in the platform, providing us with some pretty amazing apps along the way.

O'Reilly Media thought it was about time for a conference to encourage, nurture, and help developers that encompasses the entire Android ecosystem -- everything from app building to revenue models, and what goes under the hood.

We've been hearing about Toshiba's new ultra-thin tablet for about a week now, and the Japanese manufacturer made it official at today's IFA event. Known as the AT200 Excite, this ultra thin tablet is quite impressive in spec and size, considering it's thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Tab 10.1, yet still manages to include microSD, microUSB, and microHDMI.

WakeVoice

There are dozens of alternative alarms out there, but ever since I discovered WakeVoice way back in November, it's been my favorite. The biggest reason: I can lay in bed for a few minutes after I wake up and not feel bad about it since WakeVoice reads me the weather and news (it can also read your horoscope and, depending on your phone, your calendar). The app uses the stock Android speech synthesis voice, but third-party voices are linked from within the app and can be purchased.

samung galaxy tab 7.7 front

Thanks to Samsung's Unpacked app, we already knew that the South Korean company would be announcing the Galaxy Tab 7.7 today, but now we have official confirmation along with a full list of specs to match.

It goes without saying that the latest addition to Samsung's tablet family will have a 7.7-inch display, but this display will pack a resolution of 1280 x 800, the same as the recently announced Samsung Note smartphone.

galaxy note thumb

No, that isn't a typo in the title - Samsung has indeed just unveiled a 5.3-inch phone, the 'Galaxy Note', at IFA 2011 to join the rest of its growing Galaxy family. The insanely big device doesn't just stop there, though, as Samsung has paired it with one of its Super AMOLED displays at a resolution of 1280 x 800. That happens to be the same resolution as my 13-inch laptop, so you get an idea of just how sharp this thing is, with a pixel density of 285ppi.

htc sensation

It turns out we might not have to wait too long to see HTC implement the Beats by Dr. Dre audio technology into future phones. The Sensation will soon be getting an upgrade to the Sensation Special Edition 2 that brings a Beats in-ear headset, along with the following additional improvements:

  • Faster processor: 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon, up from 1.2 GHz
  • Bigger battery: 1,730 mAH, up from 1,520 mAH
  • More storage: 4GB, up from 1GB

These improvements will come at a cost - £520 (or around $847) off-contract, to be exact.

With somewhere around 200 apps on my phone at any given time, it can be a pain to scroll through all of them to find what I'm looking for. Categorizing apps into handy folders can also be time-consuming. Fazik Logic takes the concept of sorting your apps one step further however with LiveSorter, a new app that automatically sorts installed applications into appropriate categories.

Adding to the list of LiveSorter's benefits, it has relatively no resource drain as it only wakes when a new app is installed and needs to be sorted.
