The arrival of Duke Nukem 3D in the Market yesterday caused quite a stir -- not due to the excitement of the retro first-person-shooter finally making its way to Android, though, but instead because of the developer's decision to include ads in a paid app without notifying users of their existence before they purchased.

It looks like MachineWorks, the development team behind the port, listened to user cries (and a whole slew of negative Market comments/bad ratings), as they just pushed an update to the app that removes all ads.

Those of us who have been anxiously awaiting the release of Age of Defenders for Android can finally exhale - CUKETA has released their beautiful, unique creation to the Android Market.

The game deftly combines the tower defense and strategy genres, pitting you against other players in an online setting, and even allowing for live chat during matches. The game essentially gives you the dual roles of defender and attacker. The player must build a defense surrounding their own tower, while simultaneously planning various attacks against the opponent.

After the Galaxy Nexus announcement, there was one question still rolling around unanswered: when is it going to be released? While that question has been answered for our brothers and sisters across the pond, those of us here in the US have been left without a word from Verizon (or anyone else, for that matter). Of course, we have heard dozens of rumors, but nothing with any proof to back it up.

It appears an update to the Android Market is now being pushed out to handsets, and we've got the .apk file for you right now. Warning: this updated Market does not seem to work very well on Honeycomb tablets, there appears to be a number of glitches.

Download Android Market 3.3.11:

Note: Root is not required.

Note: If the Market starts force closing, just open Settings > Applications > Manage > Market, and clear data.

Update: Looks like MachineWorks listened -- Duke Nukem 3D is now ad-free.

Earlier today, a somewhat anticipated game went live in the Android Market - Duke Nukem 3D. We covered the release and the news that it was on the way. But reviews of the app on the Market are painting a picture of a less than satisfied customer base, because of a couple key pieces of information that Machineworks Northwest left out of the app description.

The highly popular news aggregator app News360 has received a major update, at least for phones (the update should be coming for the tablet version soon), and while the great looks of the app didn't need much improvement, the developers decided it was time to add a few new features.

First, feed personalization. You can now sign into your various social accounts on News360, and the app will scan them and created a personalized feed based on the interests it finds.

The intrepid folks over at XDA are always tinkering away to try and make using your Android device a better experience. And a few weeks ago, one of them (namely, temasek) found that the Android Market has some issues trying to resolve DNS servers when your device is connected over Wi-Fi. This can cause the Market to load slowly, and it's definitely something I've experienced on my own phone.

The solution?

Over the past week, I've been in contact with Sprint about the demise of their network's data speeds, especially in the 3G department. As many of you were also in the same boat, we saw quite a bit of interest and started collecting information on the situation, which resulted in this knowledge dump on Sunday - read it if you haven't yet done so.

Among the tidbits of info Sprint techs let out, one was especially interesting - a round of tower upgrades that were supposed to be completed on October 31st.

A page from a catalog of the popular UK mobile retailer Carphone Warehouse was recently leaked, and it clearly states the Motorola XOOM 2 will be available in the UK in time for Christmas.

The catalog was intended for the Irish market, and thus the price has been listed in Euros as €399. Generally, prices in Euros and GBP for consumer electronics aren't reflective of exchange rates when attempting to determine a comparable price in the US - we're fairly certain the XOOM 2 will retail for $400 here in the US of A.
