Mobile World Congress starts in just under two weeks. As with most of the big mobile shows, Samsung will be doing its own thing with an Unpacked event, which the company already announced last week. For some reason Samsung has decided to issue a second announcement, this time with a tiny bit more information. And lots of fives.
The new invitation image includes nine generic app-style icons, all with a "5" superscript. Read More
At least once or twice a year you hear about some desperate and/or stupid person who decided to be their own doctor, suturing their wounds with staples or fishing wire in lieu of an emergency room visit. If that sounds like fun, then Amateur Surgeon 3 from the quirky folks at Adult Swim is right up your artery. This is an Android release of a Flash and iOS game, not to mention a gruesome and sarcastic take on the old 'Operation' idea. Read More
MyColorScreen waited a few days before announcing the circumstances of its removal from Google Play, and just like that, Google has let the developers know the app is good to go once again. The app should be live for everyone in a matter of hours.
The removal was due to a DMCA complaint from Apple because of a theme that imitated iOS 7. The theme was removed, but the team was disheartened when no one at Google could give them any idea when the app would be restored – they feared the app could be in limbo for weeks. Read More
Android 4.4.2 is reaching the Moto X on T-Mobile today, which passed the recent soak test with flying colors. Smartphones are convenient, but keeping them charged is not. Charging cables get tangled easily and, despite being lightweight and portable, aren't all that useful on the go. External battery packs can provide a ton of juice when away from a power outlet, but if you forget to keep them charged, you might as well leave them at home. The JUMP Kickstarter project alleviates this issue by combining the two. Now your smartphone cable can double as your external backup battery. Read More

The story doesn't contain any photos of the upcoming handset, but here is an image that @evleaks shared just over a month ago. Read More
After such a long wait, the Nexus 7 is finally ready to make its Verizon Wireless debut. For the better part of a year now, Google has offered an affordable tablet with cellular radios tucked away inside that the US's largest carrier refused to activate (granted, there were ways to get around this). But now, the Big Red and the Nexus 7 are cuddling up just in time for Valentine's Day. Read More
Every so often, something shows up in the Android Police tip box that seems just a little too wild to be true. Such was the case with the information that led us to publish this story. After all, if someone simply claimed that Google was forcing device OEMs to use up-to-date software in order to get access to Google Mobile Services, you'd probably find such an allegation dubious at best. Even if they included moderately convincing evidence that this was the case. Read More

One-click theming app Themer Beta by MyColorScreen was pulled from Google Play late on February 2nd due to a copyright complaint from Apple. When it will return is not clear, but it's probably not going to be immediate.
