Is that OEM keyboard getting you down? Can't seem to get the hang of Samsung's aggressive autocorrect, or just had it with HTC's Sense themes? Google has just the thing. The stock Android keyboard has been released in Google Play as a standard app. Go grab the official Google Keyboard right now.
Fire up the Play Store on your phones, Explorers - the MyGlass app for Android received an update to version 1.4 today, adding several very desirable fixes. To the cheers of every Glass user, the reliability of SMS sending has been improved - a significant complaint from day one for the MyGlass app. Hopefully the promised improvements actually, really fix it.
Screencast performance has also been boosted, hopefully to a level above the basically-5-FPS that the feature offers now.
I'm sure the first question on your mind is why is AP reviewing a car stereo? Two words: Android app. Basically every aspect of the controlFREQ from Scosche ($119, scosche.com) can be controlled from the companion Android app (there's also an iOS version, but neither is required for the player to work) – or at least that's the claim being made here, anyway. The execution is, let's just say, less than perfect.
Minecraft Pocket Edition has had a hell of a developmentcycle. Each new point release brings a ton of new awesome stuff, though. Today, the app reaches version 0.7 and users get a whole bunch of awesome new features. Like fire. Fire is cool. Spawn eggs have also been added. You can use these items to create sheep, pigs, cows, or chickens.
The new version also includes an in-game chat function (finally!) and initial support for Minecraft Realms.
Do you have this (look down) problem after installing the new version of Gmail? That is, when you open a message, all you see are options for archive, mark unread, and add to folder? You're not alone! If you downloaded the new version of Gmail (v4.5) from the Play Store today, it's likely that your "Archive & delete actions" were reset when the app was installed. We're not sure why Google did this (well maybe Google doesn't really want you deleting your email, that would make sense from a business standpoint), but here's how to fix it.
Just a quick note for those who have been pining after the more capacious of the white Nexuses: it's back. After a couple of days absence from the Google Play Store, customers in the United States can now order a white Nexus 4 for the low, low price of $349. It even includes the white bumper accessory, just so you won't forget that you've got the lily white version of the phone when you're looking at its all-black screen and bezel.
If you haven't yet manually updated Gmail to the redesigned 4.5 release, it's rolling out on a wide basis this morning to users in numerous countries. If you can't see the update on your device, try forcing the install from the web version of the Play Store, here.
The new version of Gmail for Android includes support for the all-new inbox tabs from the desktop Gmail, along with a totally revamped slideout navigation bar.
Hangouts for Android is receiving its first Play Store update - on a staged rollout basis - today, fixing a few notable bugs, and promising enhanced performance in unspecified ways. Here's the rather short changelog:
1.0.2 ● Fixed a problem where you could receive two notifications for a message: one from Hangouts, one from the old Talk app. ● Audio issues in video calls on some Android 2.3x (Gingerbread) devices, including the Droid Charge, should now be resolved.
Madfinger Games is hard at work on the follow up to one of last year's blockbuster mobile games. Dead Trigger 2 is nearing completion and the developers have decided to release a few new details and drop some impressive gameplay footage on us. The video demo shows the stark difference between Nvidia's last generation mobile chip and the new Tegra 4.
Dead Trigger 2 is going to behave more like a massive online RPG by encouraging cooperation with other players.
It's not often that a puzzle game transcends the relatively tight boundaries of its genre to try and tell a larger story, but that's the idea behind Fallen Tree Games' Quell Memento. The only character is an old man, sitting idly in his ramshackle house, trying desperately to hang onto his life's memories. As you play through the game, the puzzles unlock his memories by thematically mirroring the objects inside the house.
