Update: Thisismynext.com has confirmed the purchase with Nuance for "approximately $100 million". It's really real.

Nuance Communications. You probably know them as the company that makes Dragon Naturally Speaking, a speech recognition program. Well, they have another little known side project: Nuance loves keyboards. Like, really loves keyboards.

They own the T9 typing style and the company that invented it. They have their own Android keyboard called Flex T9. A little over a year ago, they bought Shapewriter, Swype's main competitor.

So far, today has been the day of ICS/Prime leaks, hasn't it? Yeah, and it's not over yet. The Android Developers YouTube account has all but confirmed that the official announcement is indeed coming on October 11th at Samsung's Unpacked event. Check it:

So yeah, there's something else to add to the confirmed stack. Still though, we have four days until the rest of the goods are upon us.

Myriad is continuing their quest to make Android apps run on just about everything with the release of Alien Dalvik 2.0. The latest operation system in their crosshairs is none other than iOS -- specifically the iPad branch of iOS. That's right, Android apps on an iPad.

I can sense your skepticism over the internet (it's a new WordPress plugin) so perhaps some background info will make this a little more believable: Myriad is a founding member of the Open Handset Alliance, a Google-assembled group of companies that support Android.

Oh, snap -- things are starting to get real now. This morning, BGR broke some exclusive info on the Nexus Prime that they obtained from a "trusted source." Now, GSMarena is reporting that they also have exclusive info on the upcoming device, but there's one problem: the latter strongly disagrees with the former. In fact, about the only thing the two sources are in agreeance about is the display --a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD running at 1280x720.

Back in 2001, Sony joined forces with Ericsson to push out a new line of mobile phones, while keeping its current line of game devices, media players, and other electronics a separate entity altogether. Now, Sony is looking to buy Ericsson out in order to streamline all of its mobile technologies into one market, allowing one unified ecosystem across all devices.

According to the Wall Street Journal, "Sony aims to integrate its smartphone operation with its business in tablets, hand-held game machines, and personal computers to save on costs and better synchronize development of mobile devices."

While it's unclear how much the transaction will cost Sony, it's said that the deal is nearing completion at this time.

Last Updated: October 8th, 2011

We've been hearing tidbits of information about an HTC device codenamed Runnymede for a few weeks, but the waiting game is now over. HTC officially announced the device as the Sensation XL, and it packs mediocre specs in an oversized shell:

  • 4.7-inch 480x800 Super LCD
  • 1.5GHz single-core Snapdragon
  • 16GB internal storage (no SD Card slot)
  • 8MP rear shooter, 1.3 ffc
  • 9.9mm thin
  • Beats Audio
  • Android 2.3.x with Sense 3.5

While the spec list may be less than impressive, there is one thing to be said about the device: it's dead sexy.

It's apparent that the Nexus Prime/Galaxy Nexus announcement is getting closer, as new information is starting to surface almost daily. Today, the hardware specs have been revealed by a "trusted source" in BGR's camp -- so let's have a look:

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (Note: we're still not sure of the version number for ICS, so take that with a grain of salt)
  • 9mm thin
  • 4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass
  • TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 32GB of built-in storage
  • 5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front
  • 1080p HD video capture support
  • LTE/HSPA depending on carrier
  • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
  • NFC
  • 1,750 mAh battery

After reading through the specs, it's clear that there are a couple of things that may come off a bit...

HTCFlyer

Update: Turns out this was just a pricing error, and Best Buy is not honoring the price. Sorry for the false alarm, everyone!

Just a few days ago, Best Buy dropped the price of the HTC Flyer to just $300, and today they've dropped it further to $100. At that price, it certainly seems like a fire sale (similar to the HP TouchPad), but at this point it's unclear what's prompting the uber-low price.
