It's no secret – the mobile interface for Google's Play Store could use some help. A recent comment thread on Reddit points to the fact that many users feel that the Play Store's interface is just a mess. Others suggest that its level of finesse just doesn't jive with Google's overall habits of design. While Google's recent "toolbar" overhaul resulted in a pleasing, easy-to-use interface which successfully unified navigation between all of the search giant's services, the Play Store (at least on phones and tablets) is messy, jumbled, and just feels disorganized.

Maybe you weren't waiting up til 4am EST, eagerly anticipating the release of Angry Birds Space. That is what you have us for, after all. If you were, though, you might remember that only one version of the app made it to the Play Store that night: the free version. Later, though, Rovio released "Angry Birds Space Premium," which is the ad-free version of the app. Now, Rovio has released Angry Birds Space HD.

It's no secret that we work with a number of publishers to give away a steady stream of books to aid aspiring developers - after all, if we help developers, the entire Android ecosystem as a whole is enriched. But for some people, simply reading a book isn't the ideal way to learn. It's for these people that informIT has released Android App Development Fundamentals LiveLessons - a series of downloadable videos that are designed to teach Java developers how to build apps for Android.

We share most funny videos via our social accounts (you're following, right?), but once in a while a video comes along that is so beyond hilarious that it can no longer be the outcast doomed to bounce around social networks. It needs to be right here, on the front page. Such was the case with the best phone review on the Internet and such is the case with Mr.

Amazon updated their Kindle app for Android today, bringing about two changes that add a significant amount of functionality to the app. Perhaps the most notable change is the addition of support for Kindle Format 8, Amazon's "next generation" file format which supports HTML5, CSS3, drop caps, fixed layouts, and scalable vector graphics. The format also features Panel Views and Kindle Text Popup, enabling "great fixed layout books including graphic novels, comics, and children's books."

The other change brought by today's Kindle update is a change to the functionality of users' send-to-Kindle email addresses.

Seeing as how the HTC Vivid officially started getting its update to ICS this morning, AT&T thought it would be the best time to go ahead and tell everyone else who will (and won't) be getting the update as well. While this list holds few surprises when it comes to devices that made the cut, there are a few devices seemingly absent:

  • LG Nitro
  • Motorola ATRIX 2
  • Motorola ATRIX 4G
  • Pantech Burst
  • Pantech Element
  • Samsung Captivate Glide
  • Samsung Galaxy Note
  • Samsung Galaxy S II
  • Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9

...and there you have it, the story according to AT&T.

Google Authenticator, an important security tool that enables 2-step verification for your Google account, has racked up over 250,000 downloads over its lifetime, which is no small feat for any app in the Play Store. However, a few days ago, that version (previously available here) all of a sudden became obsolete and was consequently silently deleted.

Its replacement, which can be found here, bears version 2 (2.15 to be exact) and offers the following changelog:

  1. New entry for Google Play, same great app
  2. Updated look and feel
  3. "Scan barcode" and "Manually add account" options moved to Menu > Add account.

Bookmark sync is one of the best features of the Android stock browser (and Chrome for ICS devices), but there's one major flaw with it: what if you don't use the stock browser (or you don't have ICW)? Well, if Dolphin's your default browser, we have good news - there's now an extension in the Chrome Web Store that allows Dolphin to sync all of your desktop bookmarks to your mobile, and vice-versa.

The Google Voice app received an update today that is sure to make frequent GV users quite happy: voicemail integration in the dialer for Android 4.0 devices. Gone are the days of hopping on the computer or launching the GVoice app to listen to your voicemail, as it's now integrated directly into the ICS dialer, much like we saw at the Android 4.0 announcement back in October.

The update also brings quick access to all folders directly from the inbox.
