A large part of what makes the Internet amazing is that it's taken the human factor out of some things that rely on speed. The fact that e-mail has supplanted snail mail is a testament to this fact. Having to wait for a system to process and deliver your messages is just so much better in a digital environment.

But what about for moments where the physical matters? Though digital photography has made leaps and strides to be accessible to all, not everyone likes to have access to photos only on their digital devices.

mot2-xoom1-20

So, you've invested a chunk of change in a Motorola XOOM and you want to make sure that it stays in one piece, right? Otterbox has come to the rescue to fit that bill perfectly with the new Defender case for the XOOM. In typical Otterbox fashion, this case is made to protect your device from drops and other mishaps, while adding a bit of functionality and style. It features a "high quality polycarbonate shell" that snaps around the outside of the tablet, with a silicon skin that hugs the shell to absorb impacts.

samsung-fascinate-update-released-not-android-2.2

Owners of the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon should be getting prompted to install an OTA update pretty soon - but it's just a maintenance update with a couple of bug fixes. When I say a couple, I mean it in the most literal of ways - it fixes two things. The two things in question? It improves the delivery of over-the-air updates and incoming call connectivity. That's it. I do find it ironic that they're sending out an OTA update to improve OTA updates, though.

samsung-gt-i9000

The guys over at Samfirmware have gotten their hands on an official build of Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread for the European variant of the Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000. The build date on this is June 3rd, so it's relatively new - but there's no word on whether this is a finalized build or not.

This firmware is for the European Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 ONLY. If you attempt to flash this on any other device, the result will most likely be irreparable.

If you were lucky enough to attend Google I/O this year, then there's no doubt that you've been loving your limited edition Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (check out our review). You're about to love it even more, because the Android 3.1 update just went live.

This update brings a gaggle of nice features, including widget resizing, USB host support, and improved multitasking, just to name a few.

Update #1: In addition to the standard 3.1 stuff, Samsung provides the following list (and warns to disable any device locks prior to the update specifically for the I/O Tab):

KF3 (Google IO):

Core update from Honeycomb 3.0 to 3.1.

PHOTON_4G_Dyn_R_horiz_VideoPlayback_small

Earlier today, Sprint and Motorola held a press conference in New York City where they announced the first powerhouse phone from Motorola to land on the Now Network: the Photon 4G. It's a global-ready device that features a 4.3 inch screen, 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 1GB RAM, an 8MP rear shooter, VGA front camera, a kickstand, and Gingerbread. Now, both companies have updated their respective YouTube accounts with videos of the announcement, as well an official promo for the device.

I am not a big fan of unsolicited ads, so you can imagine how annoyed I was when I started receiving ads in the notification area of my phone prompting me to install random apps. I wasn't sure when or why it started happening, but after a little research I quickly discovered that I was not the only unhappy recipient of this type of ad.

Look familiar?

Motorola Photon GHLks

Update 2: Apparently, there were Moto reps spewing false information at the Sprint event today, because both Android Central and Droid-Life have received word that the Photon 4G will not ship with an unlocked bootloader. The statement that Motorola released was still rather cryptic, however:

Motorola has recognized the passion around this topic in our communities.  As we’ve previously communicated, it is our intention to include the unlockable/relockable bootloader in software releases starting in late 2011, where operator and channel partners will allow it.  However, this feature is not included in the software found on PHOTON 4G.

This is for rooted devices only.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S 4G or Galaxy Tab 10.1 I/O edition, some good news came out of the ClockwordMod camp today: both of the aforementioned devices are now officially supported by ROM Manager.

This will make flashing recoveries and .zips, performing backups, and finding new ROMs easier than ever before - so head over the Android Market and get your download on.
