If you happen to own an Atrix HD from AT&T, get ready for something you haven't seen in a very long time: a firmware update. Unfortunately, this is only a "security enhancement" and not an upgrade to the Android operating system. Motorola hasn't specified exactly what this update is supposed to fix, but it's almost certainly a patch for the Heartbleed bug that was widely reported last month.
The last update to the Atrix HD shipped out at the end of 2012, which brought it from 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean). Read More
In case you were getting bored with the already reasonable selection of official Nexus 5 accessories on the Play Store, Google has just slipped in a new series of Google-branded snap cases for the phone, priced at $29.99 and coming in Black, Aqua, Silver, White, and Clear variants.
The cases look pretty sleek, wrapping around the sides and back of the device, adding a Google logo to the back, and leaving the top and bottom edges open. Read More
After holding a one day sale, running out of inventory, and accidentally leaving the store open, the team behind Google Glass promised to find more ways to expand the Explorer Program to those who wanted in.
This evening, Google Glass announced - through Google+ - that Glass is now available to everyone in the US, "as long as we have it on hand."
Last week we told you we'd be trying out new ways to find Explorers.
The Google Glass team hasn't taken a break since pushing out XE16 - there have been four updates so far, and according to Glass team member Kiley, there's another on the way: XE17.1.
Accompanying the new firmware update, explorers can expect a refreshed MyGlass app. The app will come with a new, more organized design and a new launcher icon.
Explorers should also expect XE17.1 to add the ability to share maps directly from an Android device. Read More
Flappy Bird clones are lame – we all know this. However, when a game is truly aware of how ridiculous cloning Flappy Bird is, the results can be pretty amusing. In FlapThulhu, you control the Ancient Ones, who are for some reason flying through a maze instead of demanding blood sacrifices.
You can probably figure out almost all the salient details of this story without reading it – we've seen almost the exact same thing happen to other developers. I'll just give you a moment to outline the situation in your head, then we'll see how close you got. Ready? Okay. The developer of the super-neat video indexing app Mizuu was notified earlier today that Google has pulled the app for violating Google's policy on sexually explicit material. Read More
Play Store carrier billing support has rolled out to another mobile provider, 3 (Drei) in Austria. If you head over to Google's carrier billing support page, the site doesn't list it just yet, but thanks to a tip, we've laid our eyes on screenshots suggesting otherwise. Here, feast your eyes as well.
Why is this a big deal? Some people don't want to provide Google with their credit card numbers. Read More
Minuum shrinks all the letters of a keyboard down into a single row of text. This is potentially convenient for smartphones, but the learning curve alone is enough to push some users back to alternative options. Yet for smaller devices where a full-size keyboard is downright unwieldy, Minuum is uniquely situated to step in and scratch that itch. The app has now come to Google Glass, but unfortunately, this looks like one of those itches you don't want to scratch in public. Read More
Plex is one of the best ways to stream local media to your mobile devices and the Chromecast, and today the Android app is getting a cool improvement. Version 3.3 adds support for Plex's background photo upload feature so your pics will always be backed up. However, it's a premium user feature for now.
The Sonos Android app has been long overdue for an update, previously sporting a UI that looked out of date four flavors of Android ago. When version 5 hit beta, it brought about a much needed refresh, introducing a UI that looks just fine on KitKat devices. Now the app has exited beta and is ready for anyone with a Sonos sound system to download and fire up. Read More
