Turn Yourself Into A Flesh-Hungry Walker With AMC's New 'The Walking Dead Dead Yourself' App For Android [Update: More Countries]

Update 3/15/13: As of version 1.0.7, the application is now available in these additional locations: UK, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the Philippines, and South Africa.

Of all the shows that have ever been on TV in the history of time, I'm not afraid to admit that AMC's The Walking Dead is my absolute favorite. For those who may not be familiar with the show, it's the story of a group of survivors living in a post-apocalyptic zombie-infested world.

It's Friday, which means the weekend – and thus, downtime (for many people, anyway) – is only a few hours away. What better way to kick off the next couple of non-work days than with some great games for a fraction of the price? I submit that such a thing does not exist.

We've stumbled across several good deals this morning, including a couple of really fantastic titles for merely a buck.

WhatsApp Messenger With New Holo-Style UI Out Of Beta, Now On The Play Store

The most popular standalone chat platform on Android, WhatsApp, has been updated with a whole new look - and it's holo-y. About a month ago, WhatsApp previewed its redesigned aesthetic in a beta release, and now those changes have made their way into the release client. While the changelog is pretty sparse on details ('update user interface to the latest android look and feel'), compared to the old version of the app, the visual differences should be fairly obvious.

Verizon Announces First Software Update For Pantech Marauder (Version S910LVWD211F.D1)

Verizon has just announced a software update for the QWERTY-sliding Pantech Marauder, a phone we reviewed last August. The software update includes the now-standard Verizon Remote Diagnostics support utility, and a substantial list of software changes. The stock email app now supports a combined inbox mode and conversation view, Google Chrome has been added, and the Pantech 'Simple Mode' UI has been enhanced. The phone apparently doesn't reboot after a modem crash anymore, either, which is probably good.

Introducing 'Google Play News' - A Newspaper Section Is On Its Way To The Play Store

This should be fun! Here's a really early peak at Google's latest content push: it's called "Google Play News," and these bits of News come in "Issues" and "Subscriptions," so we're guessing Google's getting into the newspaper business. "Play News" will be a new, "colored" Play Store section to go along with Apps, Music, Books, Magazines, Movies, and Devices.

Our smoking gun in this case was this piece of JavaScript, (mirror) from the web version of the Play Store.

Editorial: No, The Galaxy S4 Does Not Foretell A Samsung Overthrow Of Google Or An Imminent Android Fork

A little over two weeks ago, the Wall Street Journal published a juicy story about a technology love triangle gone sour, between Samsung, Google, and Motorola. That story, as most things published at the Journal about Android or Apple do, immediately caught fire. Is Samsung plotting to break away from a Google-approved Android? Is Google actually scared of Samsung's ginormous market share? It's the sort of backstabby drama that everyone in the tech news industry would love to see unfold.
