Keeping with its tradition of addressing software issues in a timely fashion, HTC just started pushing out a minor bug-fixing update for the EVO 3D. The update (version number 2.08.651.2) began its rollout this morning and should be available to all EVO 3D owners by 8/23.

This is hardly a game-changing update, but it does iron out some potentially irksome kinks (Update: and brings native screenshots, just like on the European Sensation - just hold the Power button and tap Home!):

Additionally, the Samsung Conquer 4G will be receiving a security patch (EG15) on the day it launches (8/21), so if you're planning on picking one up, be prepared to update it as soon as you take it out of the box.

Earlier this week, the OTA update to Android 2.3.4 finally began rolling out to HTC Sensations around Europe. Our unit received the update yesterday, and quite by accident we discovered that - besides being able to make voice/video calls in GTalk - we also had a new ability to take screenshots untethered from a computer.

Those of you familiar with the standard method of taking screenshots through the Android SDK know how convoluted the process can be: hunting for drivers, enabling debugging, living down those notification-bar icons ...

The 7th Android Police book giveaway is now over, and we've picked the winners. A copy of Android 3.0 Application Development Cookbook will be shipped to each of the following readers who answered this question, as selected by Packt and Android Police:

What interests you the most about this book?

Joe Rivera:

What this book feels like to me is a great opportunity to learn about development the right way as opposed to searching 5 different forum sites just to get sent to 10 different webpages and have you give your email for more assistance that gets you 100 pieces of junk mail every day when all I wanted to know was where to start reading.

Google's dedicated RSS aggregator, simply called Reader, received an update today that brings full Honeycomb support, as well as a few minor improvements to the app. Added features include a new layout and an improved method of marking items as read, which consists of long pressing on the item.

The Honeycomb layout is a familiar one -- it shares the same look-and-feel as its desktop brother now. While the inclusion of a new Honeycomb interface is a much-needed one, I can honestly say the experience doesn't compare to that of the other RSS readers in the Market, namely Newsr.

Chitika released new Android market share figures today by carrier, and the results are somewhat interesting. Verizon, who previously controlled over 50% of the market for Android smartphones, has dropped to almost 40% over the last five months. Who's to blame? AT&T and small budget carriers, apparently (US Cellular, MetroPCS, Virgin Mobile).

AT&T now makes up nearly 9% of all Android phones in the US - having more than doubled its share back in March, when it was a mere 3.5% of the pie.

Next in line for our Mobile Security App Shootout is SeekDroid, an app that has no problem standing out in the crowded security app arena thanks to its sleek interface, smooth functionality, and manageable price tag; not to mention the adorable James Bond - style Android on the splash screen.

At a Glance

From the moment I saw the icon for GTMedia’s SeekDroid app, I suspected I had a winner on my hands -- and I haven’t been let down so far.

The DROID Incredible has remained without Gingerbread while its successor, the Incredible 2, has had it for well over a month. A Verizon support rep is now claiming that the Incredible's long awaited Ginger-bump has been put on hold pending final approval from Verizon's product team - which basically translates to: we're not happy with it yet.

It could be a single bug, or wider user experience problems. This means the delay may last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks - or more.

Not all classics need to be updated. Sometimes, an adherence to simplistic (yet addictive) game design will win out over flashy graphics any day.

The Pitch

ApzOrb is an update of the traditional "Snake" game that most of us have played on monochrome cellphone screens. However, instead of entertaining us with different shades of grey, this game has made color a vital part of how the game plays.

Instead of having to eat apples to extend the length of your block-snake, you seek out squares of similar colors.
