Gmail Can Now Search Text Inside Of Your Attachments

Google is always finding ways to improve and enhance its services. Sometimes the updates are fairly major, while others a minor bump is enough to make a notable difference. The latter's the case with a new feature now available in GMail on the desktop, mobile site, and mobile app: the search function can now return results that include text inside of attachments.

Before today, you could only locate specific attachments by searching for the the filename or file type. Now, however, the search tool can also read text inside of DOC, PDF, PPT, and other Drive-associated files.

The one downside that we found is that it doesn't show you which attachment the data was located.

Judge Koh Lifts Galaxy Tab 10.1 Sales Ban In US

Do you want to buy a Galaxy Tab 10.1? No? Well, that's pretty understandable, but for Samsung, a US sales ban on the tablet issued earlier this year has been a symbolic thorn in the company's side throughout its ongoing legal spats with Apple. Today, after a decision from the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals indicating the issue was ripe for review, that ban was lifted.

Judge Koh, reviewing the issue on the grounds under which the injunction was granted, found that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was not infringing the patents which Apple based its injunction request on. This falls in line with the jury verdict on the Tab 10.1's non-infringement of Apple's design patents.

Google Updates Android Platform Distribution Numbers – Jelly Bean Crawls To 1.8%, Gingerbread At 56%

Google has once again updated the Android platform distribution numbers. The numbers, released right on schedule today, show Gingerbread still leading the pack at 56% of devices (down from 57.5% last month), with Jelly Bean crawling up the ladder to 1.8%, up from 1.2% last time.

image

The two most important stat changes from last month, Gingerbread and Jelly Bean, are somewhat disappointing – both shifting at a lower rate than last cycle, but promised updates and leaked devices we may or may not see in the near future will likely help those numbers along.

Other versions, meanwhile, are moving as expected.

Rayman Jungle Run Review: Possibly The Best Platformer On Android

Many of us waited with bated breath for Rayman Jungle Run to arrive in the Play Store late last month. Just when the wait was almost over, it was delayed. The game finally arrived a week later with all the platforming goodness you could ask for, so maybe the delay was worth it. All this precision jumping doesn't come free, though. Is the new Rayman worth a few dollars of your cash?

Gameplay

Rayman Jungle Run is split up into 40 regular stages, along with a few bonus levels. The first place of many that this game shows itself to be really well-made is with the level design.

Motorola And Google Open Source And Merge Key Parts Of MOTODEV Studio Into AOSP

For some time, Motorola Mobility has offered its MOTODEV Studio for Android suite as a standalone alternative build on Eclipse. A lot of developers seemed to like the additional tools Moto built into Studio, but weren't exactly keen on dropping Eclipse in exchange for Moto's less open solution.

Now that Motorola is a part of Google, it seems that state of affairs just won't do. Earlier today, on the official Motorola blog, the company announced it was open sourcing key parts of MOTODEV Studio and merging them into the Android Open Source Project. Looking at the commits (here), head of the ADT/Tools team at Google, Xavier Ducrohet, seems to have been involved extensively in the process.

BBC Releases Good Food Recipe App For Android, Packs Hundreds Of Detailed Recipes - All Free For A Limited Time

You may not know it (especially if you see how I eat most nights), but I rather enjoy cooking. The fact is, though, that most recipe apps on Android really suck. Like, really, really, really suck (I am looking at you with extreme disapproval, Epicurious).

So when I saw the BBC's Good Food app on the Play Store this afternoon, I was intrigued. Then, I tried it, and I have to say - I'm impressed. This app is well designed, runs smoothly, and is absolutely gorgeous. It's seriously good. If you cook, just download it right now and snatch up all the add-on recipe books.

Looks like the Red Cross is on a roll. In just a few months, it has released what's becoming a series of not only impressive looking, but completely utile applications.
