Of all the stock smartwatch frames to use, Audiobooks... of all the stock frames! They had to pick the Samsung Galaxy Gear, a discontinued smartwatch that runs Tizen OS and has nothing to do with Android Wear 2.0. A Samsung Gear Live would have been slightly better, because even if it's never getting Android Wear 2.0, at least it runs Android Wear so it's in the same... Galaxy. But let's not let the mistake of the graphics and marketing team at Audiobooks.com take away the spotlight from the prowess of their developer team.
The latter has updated the Android app to be fully compatible with Android Wear 2.0, less than 10 days after the platform's official release. Read More
Like Nest and Honeywell, ecobee makes smart thermostats that you can easily schedule and control remotely from your smartphone through an app. The ecobee Android app received an update at the start of the month that added support for the new cheaper ecobee3 lite, but it made one drastic change that broke the app for many users. Instead of the app launching like usual, it shows the error message "Security credentials error," and exits. Read More
Everyone enjoys making music of some kind, from children hitting pots and pans together to an experienced musician performing to a sell-out crowd. I'm tone deaf and even I enjoy it. Today, Google announced it has a new experiment, A.I. Duet, which uses machine learning to respond to music that you play.
A.I. Duet was built by developer and musician Yotam Mann, based on the Magenta framework Google released last year. Using this, he's been able to have artificial intelligence learn how to play music based on hundreds or thousands of samples, through machine learning. While computers have been able to play music for a while, they would have to have been taught how to play. Read More
Cameras and displays are areas in which Samsung Mobile traditionally excels; quick updates aren't one of them. However, with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge's Galaxy Beta Program, the South Korean company proved that it was willing to change that. Now, following a global rollout of a similar caliber, T-Mobile is rolling the official Android 7.0 Nougat update out to Galaxy S7 edge devices that were already running Nougat beta software. Given that the S7 edge is receiving it, it's fair to assume that the S7 also is, or at the very least, will be shortly. Read More
Google's Pixel and Pixel XL phones are sold in three colors - Very Silver, Quite Black, and Really Blue. While the last color is certainly the most eye-catching, it's only been available in the United States. Google originally stated that the model would only be a temporary US exclusive, and now we are seeing it arrive in other countries - first in Canada with Rogers, and now the UK with EE. Read More
One month ago, an arrest warrant was issued for Lee Jae-yong, the de facto chairman of the entire Samsung conglomerate. The warrant later was nullified when challenged in court by Samsung, but a new warrant issued today has stuck: Mr. Lee was arrested in Seoul and charged with bribery. The entire scandal revolves around an ongoing political crisis involving the country's president. Lee is accused of paying bribes to organizations run by President Park's personal advisor, Choi Soon-sil, in exchange for political favors. But the details of the larger scandal are rather tedious, so I'll leave the BBC's excellent summary for you to peruse here. Read More
After a few years of rarity, unlimited data plans are a thing again. Verizon kicked off this recent round of plan changes with its unlimited plan last week. It was then followed by T-Mobile, Sprint, and now AT&T. Like Tmo and Sprint, AT&T had an unlimited plan, but it's making some changes. The main one being you can buy it now—no more restricting access to DirecTV subscribers. It's still way expensive, though. Read More
You probably don't need a Tango device. While the Google-developed spatial awareness tech is cool, it's also incredibly niche, and there are only a few fleeting practical applications for its use once you get past the admittedly nifty tech demos. But if you can in fact justify several hundred dollars for a one-off design, there's a way you can save a few bucks today. Lenovo is offering $50 off of the Phab 2 Pro, the first (and very likely only) consumer device with Tango camera tech, bringing it down to $449.99. Read More

Finding phones with flagship-level specs for mid-ranger prices isn't too difficult nowadays (ahem, OnePlus 3T), but it's less of a breeze to get a good deal on a mid- to high-end device for the price of a budget handset. It's only been around a year since the Nextbit Robin first arrived in the hands of Kickstarter backers, but you can already pick one up for just $139.99. Read More
