The last time we covered Aviary, the powerful mobile photo editor was limited to being launched as a plugin inside the stock gallery app. Now, Aviary the company has booted Aviary the photo editor from the nest, launching it as a standalone app. Users everywhere rejoice, as they can now find Aviary after installing it.

In addition to the apps' newfound independence, Aviary has added a few new features: a customizable interface, a color temperature tool, and basic effects like black and white and sepia tones.

As our address books become more advanced and we become more and more inundated with information, it can become difficult to keep up with all the people we need to interact with on a regular basis. NextCall augments your address book by letting you rank important contacts, set alerts for when you need to call them, and sort your contacts into business and personal categories.

The app will keep track of how long it has been since you last called a certain contact, so you can keep track of who you've been neglecting.

Update: We've heard from Samsung that this page was put up by Amazon by mistake (aka, it was set to auto-publish), and has since been taken down. If you submitted an order, it'll likely be refunded in a short time, if it hasn't already. We can still take something from this, though - the Note 10.1 is coming soon (probably next month), and it'll likely be $550 for the 32GB version.

ASUS just started pushing a nice little update to the Transformer Prime that brings a number of enhancements to the device:

  • GPS dongle fix & local notification
  • Ethernet UI support to set Ethernet connect policy when screen off
  • Add system bar lock settings for showing/hiding system info
  • Enable Face Unlock feature
  • Support Bluetooth HDP
  • Third party app upgrade
  • Other bug fixes

Hopefully, this update will also bring the performance boost that the Transformer Pad 300 received with its most recent OTA, but we'll have to see.

smule1

First, Smule turned speech into music (and pontifications into pop) with Songify, and now the developer is looking to get into the instrument-emulation side of Android music apps.

Indeed, Magic Piano, another popular iOS Smule app that has now made its way to Android, lays out a series of dots which you have to tap in tune to your favorite song (assuming it's in Smule's inventory, of course).

So, is it as cool as it sounds?

We haven't heard much about Acer's tasty-looking ICS tablet since CES, but today the company made the quad-core Iconia Tab A700 available to pre-order in the US and in Canada.

Lest you forget, the tablet's specs are quite impressive (if a bit more run of the mill now than they were in January) - here's a rundown:

  • 1920 x 1200 "HD" display (that's a 16:10 aspect ratio, though Acer apparently has the gall to market it as a 1080p screen, which would really be 16:9)
  • 10.5 hour battery life
  • Dolby Mobile 3 and 5.1 Channel Dolby Surround Sound via HDMI
  • microSD card slot and microUSB 2.0 ports
  • 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core CPU (with the now-famous "4-Plus-1" design)
  • 12-core GeForce NVIDIA GPU
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Android 4.0 with Acer's "Ring" interface
  • GPS
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 32GB of flash storage
  • 9.8mm thickness
  • 5MP rear-facing and auto-focusing camera
  • 1MP front-facing camera
  • Black and silver colors

Both national retailers and Acer's own online store now have the tablet on pre-sale for a reasonable $449.99.

ASUS officially announced the Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700T for those who prefer model numbers) back at Mobile World Congress in February. In terms of hardware, the Infinity is nearly identical to the Transformer Prime, but it features a higher resolution 1920x1200 Super IPS+ display, improved Wi-Fi and GPS reception, and a higher resolution front facing camera.

Since the official announcement, ASUS has been pretty quiet - it has yet to come out with an official release date or finalized pricing.

Frisbee Rush is undoubtedly one of the most original games we've seen in ages. The story is simple - the city has been invaded by aliens, and only you and your awesome frisbee-wielding abilities can stop them - but the mechanics are anything but. See, your phone is only the controller; the game is played on your TV or PC.

Getting started with the game is about as easy as it gets: download the Android app, and load up http://www.frisbeerush.com on your TV or PC.

Sony has had a busy morning so far, announcing no fewer than four new Android smartphones. The newly announced Xperia miro, tipo and tipo dual will all ship with Android 4.0, despite each having underwhelming specifications, whilst the HSPA version of the Xperia ion is still set to ship with Android 2.3, but as the name suggests it will be lacking 4G.

The Xperia mio packs a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 320, Android 4.0 and a 5MP rear camera.

According to the always sometimes occasionally reliable FOSS patents, Apple made a conscious decision to allow Samsung to launch the Galaxy S III on time... so that the case could go to trial sooner. Apple had the option of filing a temporary restraining order to potentially stop the shipment of the SGSIII, but doing so would've been a risk for a few reasons.

Because Apple and Samsung are still in litigation over the Galaxy Nexus, Apple could attempt to stop shipment of the GSIII using a temporary restraining order (TRO).
