Like the Kindle tablets that came before it, Amazon's Fire TV Stick is built on top of a customized version of Android. You won't find the Play Store and Google apps on your television screen if you pick one up, but it's still a good way to get your hands on apps. Then, of course, there are the ever-so-important TV shows and movies.
Best Buy is currently offering the Fire TV Stick for $25. That's $15 less than the product's usual price. This also matches the amount Amazon was selling the media dongle for during its big Prime Day sale in mid-July. Read More
The tower defense genre may not have been born on mobile devices, but it's a match made in heaven. Tapping on stationary structures and slowly moving units is a gameplay style better suited to touchscreens than gamepads or, arguably, mice. The basics have been done to death by now, so developers are coming up with creative new ways to expand the genre.
In Clandestine: Anomaly (no relation to the superb Anomaly series of tower defense games), developer ZenFri has combined top-down strategy with augmented reality. Here's a game that doesn't just rely on your touchscreen, it needs your camera and GPS as well. Read More
Back in January at CES 2015, French tech company Parrot announced an Android Auto head unit to end all Android Auto head units. At least, that's what it looked like. Parrot never announced pricing or availability for the RNB6 (catchy name!), and all news about it pretty much fell to the wayside post-show. To be fair, this happens frequently with Parrot products - the company uses trade shows to gauge interest in what are, essentially, working prototypes, and then decides whether or not they're worth making.
The RNB6, Parrot has concluded, is not the sort of thing they want to sell to consumers. Read More
When you stare into the infinite void of space, salted with stars so vast and distant that they defy the human mind to imagine them, you can't help but wonder at the scope and majesty of the universe. Then you start to wonder how to make some money out of it.
Cosmonautica is the latest in a long line of space trading sims, the stellar ancestors of the old "pirate math" games from the 80s. And yes, buying and selling goods across star systems serves as the core of the game, with profits enabling you to upgrade and arm your ship, hire new crew, and expand your business. Read More

Alcatel is running a new promotion today for the back-to-school season, and it looks like a good one. For a limited time, you can get an Idol 3 smartphone and a Onetouch Watch for $299. The phone by itself is $250, so you're effectively only paying $50 for the watch. Read More
Nokia has hinted at a sale of its HERE mapping and location unit since April, when it announced its merger with Alcatel-Lucent and a strategic review of HERE. The rumors at the time pegged Uber and unnamed German carmakers to be interested in the acquisition, then were more substantiated last month when Bloomberg revealed that the trio of BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz were the most likely candidates.
