In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a new Judge Dredd movie coming out starring Karl Urban (who should know a thing or two about remakes… darn it, he’s an actor, not a doctor). To build up some mobile hype, a new game has hit the Google Play Store. And since it is a mobile game, old Judge, jury, and executioner has come to finish off what plants, samurai, and Barry Steakfries couldn’t: zombies.

Owners of Verizon's Samsung Galaxy SIII should be keeping an eye out for a software update which VZW says is "coming soon." The update – which sadly is not Jelly Bean – brings to VZW-connected SIII owners a handful of key improvements, enhancements and bug fixes, and brings the device's software build up to IMM76D.I535VRALG7.

Among the changes included in the 30.7MB update are improved stability and connectivity with Back Up Assistant, the ability to use Verizon Remote Diagnostics, improved S Beam connectivity, an NFC (TecTile) bug fix, and a "No SIM" fix.

The support docs for Verizon's variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 have just been updated with details of a new OTA LP11 that will bring Ice Cream Sandwich. The update for the Wi-Fi version started rolling out in the US several weeks ago, and T-Mo started pushing the update through Kies to its variant earlier this month.

It's nice to see Verizon make right in a somewhat timely manner, as this update brings some really nice features to the device, and the addition of ICS makes it feel like an entirely new tablet.

The calculator. Such a trivial part of smartphone software that most of us probably don't spent too much time thinking about its existence. While it can be used for the most basic functions, advanced options beyond that of the stock calculator are sometimes needed.

With that in mind, developer Xlythe yanked the stock calculator from ICS and JB and went to work. He modded it to perform advanced functions - just take a look at the feature list:

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.

Earlier this evening, Nasdaq reported that Taiwanese manufacturer Acer decided to cancel a press conference scheduled for Thursday, which would have seen the announcement of Acer's CloudMobile A800.

The smartphone, which would have been unveiled in Shanghai, was set to run on Aliyun, a mobile OS developed by a Chinese Internet firm called Alibaba Group, the largest internet firm in China by transactions. Acer indicated that the press conference was canceled after Google, according to Nasdaq, "expressed concerns about the smartphone."

An anonymous official at Acer commented that "Acer will continue to communicate with Google and the company still wants to launch the new smartphone based on Alibaba software."

KizStudios released a nice little adventure game called Critter Escape to the Amazon Appstore a while back, but it has now arrived in Google Play. In Critter Escape, you pretty much do what the title says. You're a critter of some sort, and you have to escape from a diabolical animal research facility. On the upside, some of the experiments offer helpful powers that improve your chances of escape.

There are two control schemes: a virtual thumbstick (which is bad) and a tap and drag system (which is good).

Odds are pretty good that you’ve hear this phrase from grizzled SNES-era gamers entering their thirties: “Games are too easy these days!” (Of course, younger gamers will use the same tone to complain about a lack of regenerating health and auto-saves.) If you long for the days of three lives and no continues… then even you might not be hardcore enough for One Single Life. This freshman game from developer FreshTone takes the “permanent death” idea to extremes by allowing you, well, one single life.

After a back and forth over at TmoNews, first with T-Mobile claiming that yes, the Galaxy S Relay (announced several days ago) has an S4 processor, and then Samsung's own product packaging saying otherwise, we've gotten a definitive answer from the source.

Samsung has officially stated to us that the Relay 4G has a Snapdragon S4 processor - for sure. The packaging is incorrectly labeled, and as has been stated over at TmoNews, will be corrected.

While we still wait for newer products like Play Movies or Play Books to reach a wider audience, Google's been hard at work bringing a slightly more useful product to additional countries: Google Maps with Navigation. After bringing voice navigation to India, nine more new countries are being added to the supported list for the Navigation beta. Including the following:

  • Egypt
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Qatar
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
  • Bahrain
  • Jordan
  • Algeria
