Remember the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Sensation 4G that we told you about yesterday? Turns out that it does more than just bring ICS - it also kills free tethering.

Wait, what? T-Mobile had free tethering? Technically, no. But in reality, yes. Here's how it used to work: T-Mobile offered a tethering service for around $15 per month. Somehow, though, there was a "technical limitation" that actually prevented them from charging for the service on Android devices (though Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T have never had a problem taking our money for the same thing).

Meizu, the Chinese electronics manufacturer best known for making a splash this year by announcing its own quad-core device built in-house, took down its site for unknown reasons earlier today. We reached out to the company to find out what's going on with its site. The company responded to let us know that the site will be back soon, once it's been cleaned up to "comply with local regulations."

We are currently cleaning up our forums and wish to stress that all our other business areas are fully functional.

The Tegra 3 tablet battle is in full swing now, with four full-featured tablets on the market at the current moment (ASUS Transformer Prime, Transformer Pad 300, and Acer Iconia Tab A510 being the other three). Today, we're going to take a look at the newest one of the bunch: the Toshiba Excite 10. This is the first device to come out of Toshiba's newly announced Excite line, with 7.7" and 13.3" models coming in early June.

If you haven't heard of Machinarium, you probably aren't much of a PC gamer. That's not mean to be some kind of "high and mighty" insult - it's just the truth. Machinarium is a small indie game that was released for PCs and Macs back in September of 2009, developed by Czech studio Amanita Design. It won numerous awards as indie game of the year, as well as accolades for its astounding artwork and soundtrack.

We've all seen the hilarious eCards that pop up on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and reddit (over and over and over...), but you may not know that they come from Someecards. The company has an iOS app, but otherwise the only way to get the hilarious goods right to your mobile device was to visit the site directly. Not anymore, as the company released an Android app a few weeks ago to little fanfare.

LG has officially announced its foray into the quad-core smartphone space, with the launch of the Android 4.0 Optimus 4X HD. Unveiled just prior to MWC in February, the smartphone features NVIDIA's latest Tegra 3 Quad-Processor clocked at 1.5GHZ, with the 4-PLUS-1 architecture. Additionally, the device will have a:

  • 4.7" (720p) True HD IPS display
  • 8MP rear camera and 1.3MP front shooter
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB onboard storage
  • 2150 mAh battery
  • Razor thin 8.9mm thickness
  • SHSPA+ 21Mbps connectivity

LG's assertion, that the 2,150mAh battery on the Optimus 4X HD is the biggest amongst quad-core smartphones, might be technically true as the Droid RAZR MAXX (sporting a massive 3,300 mAh battery) has only two cores.

Definition: A "nightly" is a bleeding edge release that is built on a daily basis, usually at night after a full day's worth of new code has been committed.

It could oftentimes be unstable and not properly tested, lacking any changelogs, but eventually evolving into alphas, betas, release candidates, and finally stable releases.

Update: Confirmed working on both Sensation and T-Mobile Sensation 4G.

Have an HTC Sensation or T-Mobile Sensation 4G?

Today, I uninstalled the Amazon Appstore and bought all the FAOTD (free app of the day) apps I've been really using. Why did I do it? Because, mildly put, the Amazon Appstore app, which is required for all Amazon-installed apps to run and perform their license checks, has affected my battery life in very negative ways. Even if you never open it, it will keep running in the background, using up valuable CPU cycles, keeping the device awake when it should be sleeping.

Love it or loathe it, GameStop is a mainstay of the modern gaming retail experience. If you're a frequent customer of the retailer, the company's new mobile app should be part of your arsenal. GameStop Mobile allows customers to track their PowerUp Rewards points and earn more points by checking in when they're at a store. For frequent customers, that alone should be worth a download.

The app can also be used to locate stores, buy items, and get information on games.
