Two things for Kansas City residents who have Google Fiber: one, I still hate you. Two, Google just released its Fiber app for more devices that the lone Nexus 7 you received as part of the Fiber package. You know, just in case you're tired of reaching for one of the best Android tablets on the market just to change your TV channels. It's a hard-knock life.
According to the Play Store listing, the app should work on any 4.1+ device, but Fiber's Google+ post tells a different story, stating that it requires 4.2.
Verizon has just announced a software update for the QWERTY-sliding Pantech Marauder, a phone we reviewed last August. The software update includes the now-standard Verizon Remote Diagnostics support utility, and a substantial list of software changes. The stock email app now supports a combined inbox mode and conversation view, Google Chrome has been added, and the Pantech 'Simple Mode' UI has been enhanced. The phone apparently doesn't reboot after a modem crash anymore, either, which is probably good. Read More
This should be fun! Here's a really early peak at Google's latest content push: it's called "Google Play News," and these bits of News come in "Issues" and "Subscriptions," so we're guessing Google's getting into the newspaper business. "Play News" will be a new, "colored" Play Store section to go along with Apps, Music, Books, Magazines, Movies, and Devices.
A little over two weeks ago, the Wall Street Journal published a juicy story about a technology love triangle gone sour, between Samsung, Google, and Motorola. That story, as most things published at the Journal about Android or Apple do, immediately caught fire. Is Samsung plotting to break away from a Google-approved Android? Is Google actually scared of Samsung's ginormous market share? It's the sort of backstabby drama that everyone in the tech news industry would love to see unfold. Read More
While Big Red may have just started pushing Jelly Bean to the OG RAZR/MAXX twins, the more modern HD variants of the devices are set to get a decent bug-fix-update as well. The details of the OTA just hit Verizon's support site, which generally means the update is ready to go and should begin rolling out within a few days.
Looks like it's going to bring fixes-a-plenty, covering everything from security to data roaming and Wi-Fi connectivity. Read More
In my opinion, one of the most appealing things about the Galaxy S III is the sheer amount of accessories made specifically for it. Never before had we seen an Android handset get as much love from all the big players, which is likely one of the things that made it such a popular handset.
Continuing that sort of add-on support, Samsung is coming out swinging with the Galaxy S4, as it has already announced a gaggle of pretty impressive accessories just for the device. Read More
Al Jazeera has just released its official English news app designed especially for tablets on the Play Store, and it comes equipped with an absolute boatload of features (are you listening, CNN?). Bladeslinger is one of those games that makes a splash with impressive trailers and promises of console-level gaming, but how often have we been left heartbroken by similar titles? This game sets out to tell a story, so at least it has that going for it. William Glaston is just your average cowboy with a revolver-gun and robot arm, but things get weird when he returns to his home town of Hammer's Peak to find it overrun with monsters that used to be the townsfolk. I'm at Radio City Music Hall checking out the Samsung Galaxy S4. Tell me, have you seen the Galaxy S3? Then you've pretty much seen the GS4. There have been a few cosmetic tweaks, and a spec bump, but it's mostly a "Galaxy S 3S."
The screen is probably the biggest upgrade. It's been fitted with a 5-inch, 1080p AMOLED display, and it looks gorgeous. The viewing angles are perfect. Read More
Now that Samsung officially announced the Galaxy S4, you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the new features and software improvements. I know I am still trying to wrap my head around various S Things while pondering whether we have an S Hit on our hands on or not.
