It would appear that Sprint plans on going full speed ahead in focusing on product development for its 4G LTE lineup this year. David Owens, Sprint's VP of Product Development made clear at CES Wednesday that Sprint "won't be introducing any more WiMax smartphones," adding "April, May, June, July, August, those will be very aggressive times for us." This may be a hint that we could begin seeing LTE devices as early as April, which is great news for customers holding out for a new device (like Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, which is poised to be Sprint's first LTE device).

As I wrote back in October, Sprint currently has major network issues, but the company has been planning to address the woes with the Network Vision rollout in 2012 and 2013.

Network Vision is a project to improve existing cell towers and roll out LTE across the U.S., and it's already underway in the existing CDMA 1900MHz range. 1900MHz is nice, but just wait till you see what the 2nd stage of NV (Network Vision) has in store when it starts rolling out in the 800MHz range in place of the current iDEN network.

As CES comes to a close, we look back at the new devices we've seen - some were expected, some came from out-of-nowhere, and others were just downright impressive. Among all of the things that we've seen this week, however, there is one non-Android piece of tech that stands above the rest: Samsung's Transparent Smart Window. Here, check it out:

Update: Here's Samsung's official video that breaks down some of Smart Window's features further:

And with that, dear reader, we conclude our coverage of CES 2012.

Droid RAZR MAXX

Verizon Wireless and Motorola just took the wraps off the new Droid RAZR - the Droid RAZR MAXX, a familiar name we saw leaked a few weeks ago. The RAZR MAXX contains the following changes compared to the original:

  • A beefier battery with an unknown at the moment capacity. What we do know is that it allows for more than 21 hours of talk time on a single charge.

We've seen our fair share of Android malware hit the scene, but the guys over at Kaspersky Labs have stumbled upon something rather alarming: the first IRC bot for Android. For those unaware, an IRC bot is a tool that provides automated function inside of an IRC channel. While very useful in many scenarios, IRC bots are also often used for malicious intent, such as the case at hand. It's worth noting here that, with the way this attack works, remote commands could be sent via any medium - SMS, webserver, etc.

Samsung Mobile USA is quite excited about recently reaching 1 million Facebook followers and is celebrating this event by giving out 30 high-end devices and 100 $50 Media Hub vouchers to anyone who follows them on Facebook and submits an entry form (you can do that once per day).

As a thank you to our one million Facebook fans and counting, we asked you what prize you'd love most... a Galaxy S II, Nexus, or Tab.

Well, it's official - the "project" Xoom owners have been waiting for is an update to Ice Cream Sandwich, meant as a soak test, expected to last through the weekend. Moto has begun pushing the new software as of 9pm PST. An anonymous tipster has provided us with shots of a private section of Motorola's official XOOM support forum, which confirm that the update is going live to those lucky enough to join the test group.

Update: Looks like it was a pricing error, as the listing has been pulled. Bummer, dude.

The tour de force Asus Transformer Prime (which I reviewed in early December and came away highly impressed by) is listed at HH Gregg for just $400 - that's both in store (if you can find it one available, anyway) and online, too. That may not seem like seem like a bargain for the uninitiated who are more accustomed to the $400 price tag of the original Transformer, but keep in mind that this is the newer, much sleeker, and much more powerful Tegra 3-touting Prime model, which normally retails for $500

Sony unveiled a couple of new handsets at CES this week - one for the US market (Xperia Ion) and one for the international market (Xperia S). Both are powerful devices and should be the first to be released under the Sony name (not Sony Ericsson), and the latter is now available for pre-order from Clove UK for £467.99 with an expected release at the beginning of March.
