When Google unveiled the Nexus Q at I/O on Wednesday, there were cheers. But not until the designers and creators of the hardware came on stage to explain what it was for a good 5 minutes. Hell, they even put together a fantastic video showing the process of manufacturing the Q (in the good 'ol US of A!). Seriously, if you haven't watched it - watch it. The production values are outstanding.

Zoidberg on Google TV
Last Updated: July 2nd, 2012

Last night, I finally sold my Logitech Revue.

Why? Google's absolute silence on Google TV (GTV) during I/O keynotes represented, as I saw it, the last straw for the platform (at least in its current state). Of course, Google TV hasn't really seen much action since last fall, but after former Google CEO Eric Schmidt promised big, magical things for this summer, it seemed Mountain View might still have some GTV tricks up its sleeves.

In the second half of a double Google Analytics whammy, Google has introduced new features for mobile developers and marketers in the Analytics dashboard. While Google's other announcement, an Analytics mobile app, made our site's founder combustible with joy, this announcement is sure to bring cheer to those with products already in the Play store. These new features give insight into how Android users discover apps, along with their usage patterns, in order to enable developers and marketers to increase their products' reach and improve their performance.

Google just dropped the full OS image for the recently announced at Google I/O Nexus 7 tablet. The image allows you to restore the tablet back to full stock Android 4.1 (build JRN84D) in case something goes wrong. This way, developers can tweak its internals without fearing a brick and users can always go back to something stable if a flash goes awry.

There are no surprises here - the Nexus 7 is a true Nexus device after all.

Apple asked for an injunction on US sales of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus back in February, and now it's gotten it. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh has ruled that the Google flagship device infringes several patents, but primarily 8,086,604 (multi-source searching). This is a blow to Google just as I/O 2012 is wrapping up. This might finally bring Google head to head with Apple.

Apple has alleged that Samsung infringed four patents, including the aforementioned multi-source search patent.

Site owners and webmasters, listen up: the official Google Analytics app just landed in the Play Store! Finally! Checking site stats has never been easier, it all happens in real-time, and is completely customizable. If you use Analytics, this is definitely a must-have application.

Update by Artem:

There are four tabs you can swipe between:

  • Real-Time
  • Dashboard
  • Automatic Alerts
  • Custom Alerts

The sign-in process uses your system Google accounts, so there are no passwords to enter.

Face Unlock, a security feature introduced with Ice Cream Sandwich, while a fun concept, proved vulnerable to trickery. Specifically, the unlock method would recognize photos of your face as if they were your real face. Another issue with Face Unlock was that it ostensibly never locked users out after numerous failed attempts.

Looking to address these issues, Google did a bit of tweaking to Jelly Bean's Face Unlock. Namely, FU now features a "Liveness check" option which, as the name suggests, makes sure you're a real, live person before unlocking your device.

Sprint customers with the recently-released Samsung Galaxy S III are in store for a small, tiny, itty-bitty little OTA update that started rolling out today. The update brings but one thing:

  • Security Updates

Sure, it's not a huge update in terms of usefulness, but it marks one milestone for the GSIII: its first OTA update. Aww, they grow up so fast.

To pull the update manually, head into Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates > Update Android.

MLB.com's At Bat 2012 app, which we covered at its launch, and which bills itself as "the #1 sports app of all time" and "the official app of Major League Baseball," has seen a rather significant price reduction, recently sliding from $14.99 to just $9.99 in the Play Store.

The app, for those baseball fans who have until now not discovered this gem, is essentially a one-stop source for mobile updates and supplemental media related to games both in progress and those that are already over.
