Just as with the original Droid, Motorola is planning to follow up the Droid X with an even more powerful device, in this case a superphone on the same level as the Bionic. Although it looks virtually the same as its predecessor, there are a few noteworthy changes:
- 1 GHz dual core Tegra 2 processor
- 4.3" qHD (960 x 540) display
- 8 megapixel rear camera
- Android 2.2 with new version of MOTOBLUR
- 1 GB RAM
Unfortunately, not everything has been upgraded: the bootloader is still locked, which makes the possibility of a more open Atrix/Droid Bionic a little less likely. Read More
Were the four phones (and the one amazing tablet) Verizon announced at CES not enough for you? Then you'll be happy to hear that Droid Life has unearthed two more devices headed Verizon's way: the Motorola Droid X2 and the HTC Incredible 2.
Unfortunately, the Droid X2 will not feature a LTE radio, although it will pack a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. Interested? Droid Life says Verizon is planning to release the device in May. Read More
The 4th and final new device that I got to demo today at Verizon's 4G LTE event and the one I am personally most excited about was the Motorola Droid Bionic, announced yesterday. The reason I liked it so much was, of course, the fact that the other 3 phones that were introduced on Verizon - LG Revolution, Samsung i510, and HTC Thunderbolt - are all single core, while the Droid Bionic packs 2 cores in a really impressive package. Remember Trident Case, the company that produced the excellent Cyclops case for the EVO 4G? Well, it turns out that very manufacturer has a whole lot more cases in its inventory, including the following beauties:
From left to right: the Cyclops case for the Samsung Vibrant, the Kraken case for the HTC Droid Incredible, and the Kraken case for the Motorola Droid X
As good as they are, however, there will be those of you reluctant to hand over $34.95 for a case to protect your phone, which is understandable in these tough economic times. Read More
Every few months, our pal Daniel Ruby, research director for ad firm Chitika, takes a look at the market capitalization of Android devices. As of early November, the original Motorola Droid still holds an astounding lead in the market with nearly 19%. The HTC EVO 4G checks in to second place with 12%, followed by the Droid X at 10%. The Incredible (7%) and Vibrant (5%) round out the top five. Read More
So look, Verizon's price for the Motorola Droid 2 Global is nice (or at least pretty decent for a phone loaded with a 1.2GHz processor and dual GSM/CDMA radios), but it can't stand up to the deals you and I both know Wirefly's been cooking up. Well now the Internet's largest authorized retailer of cell phones has come out and made it official - it's selling both the white and the regular versions of the phone for just $99.99 with a new two-year contract. And with that, we solidly conclude that Android truly has visited 99% of the mobile form factors out there. That's right, people, the Motorola Droid Pro has arrived in the Android Police offices, and after spending the last week or so with it, I can tell you - with a straight face, nonetheless - that RIM's got serious competition here. The handset isn't exactly all that and a piece of cake, but it's definitely up there, at least for enterprise customers. Read More
Verizon has finally announced the Motorola Droid 2 Global on the Verizon Facebook page. It may seem a bit backwards since the pre-order has been going on for a while - but now it's officially official. The D2G will be priced at $199.99 with a new two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate - which means you'll be paying $299.99 upfront.
Unlike the original Droid 2, Global owners will be provided with a SIM card so they can use the phone overseas. Read More
Wow... that's the only word I have to describe what Amazon Wireless pulled this morning. Amazon and Wirefly oftentimes offer killer deals compared to the carriers (like yesterday's $50 Droid Pro Wirefly deal), but this one is just ridiculous. All of the Droid phones, including the newly released Droid Pro, are exactly 1 penny over at Amazon Wireless for new Verizon customers:
In addition to the free 2-day shipping and the absence of any tax, all activation fees related to establishing a new account are waived. Read More

If you want to buy the Pro directly from Verizon Wireless, you're going to be faced with $280 + taxes - a $100 mail-in rebate, which, in my opinion, is a very sub-par option. Read More
