Nova Launcher v5.5-beta3 adds bottom search box and other goodies from Pixel Launcher

Google is in the process of making some changes to the Pixel Launcher, and that means its time for the third-party launchers to play catchup. Action Launcher has been in the lead when it comes to adopting Pixel things, but here comes Nova Launcher with a revamped search box, Pixel 2-style notification dots, and more. You'll need the full version to get all the new stuff, though.

Google Photos is rolling out identification and photo grouping for your dogs and cats

One of Google Photos' main selling points is how easily and accurately it can identify faces in photos and group them together. The face recognition is seriously impressive, and it saves a lot of time when you're looking in your library for pictures of a specific person. Now, as we first saw in a teardown, Google is rolling out the same feature for cats and dogs, allowing you to easily locate photos of your furry friends.

Some Google Play listings now show when content is available from other sources (like HBO)

We noticed over the last week that some listings on Google Play are showing when items are available via HBO's NOW streaming service. We aren't entirely sure how new this is, as neither company has made any announcements related to it. In fact, some of us here at AP aren't seeing it at all, regardless of whether we have HBO NOW installed or not.

CyanogenMod Theme Engine is gone for good, LineageOS removes supporting code

During CyanogenMod's heyday, one of the ROM's biggest features was the Theme Engine. You could download any number of themes from the Play Store to change up the entire system's look. However, the feature didn't make an appearance in CyanogenMod 14 (based on Android 7.0 Nougat), and there hasn't been much talk of working on it since the project reorganized into LineageOS.

Magisk v14.3 beta released with new 'Invincible mode' fix for root loss, among other changes

Magisk was previously updated to support Google's Pixel devices, as well as any other phones that might use the recently-implemented A/B partitioning scheme. But, there was one hiccup. It turns out that the Magisk daemon running in the background can die, leading to a temporary loss of root, and it doesn't get restarted. But this latest update, v14.3, introduces a new "Invincible mode" that should fix all that.
