Massively Delayed Recon Jet Heads-Up Display Is Finally Shipping On March 30th

Google is currently re-tooling Google Glass, but that other Android-powered face computer is finally shipping pre-orders that were placed back in 2013. The Recon Jet is expected to leave the warehouse on March 30th. To make up for the delay, the company is including a free spare battery and clear lenses in addition to the standard gray ones.

TWRP Reaches Version 2.8.6.0 With Updated AOSP Base, Scaling Improvements, And More

The Team Win Recovery Project's custom recovery, affectionately known as TWRP, has received an update today. The latest version of the software is now 2.8.6.0, and it comes with a number of changes. There are some keyboard improvements here, some scroll bar adjustments there—that sort of thing.

Here's the full list.

  • Fix daylight savings time rules for USA and Europe (_that)
  • Allow mulitple overlays for popup boxes (Dees_Troy)
  • Add pattern style password entry for decrypt (Tassadar)
  • Keyboard improvements (_that)
  • Update AOSP base to 5.1 (Dees_Troy)
  • Reduce theme count to 5 and rely on scaling (Dees_Troy)
  • Various scaling improvements (Dees_Troy)
  • Improved handling of resources in the GUI (_that)
  • Make scroll bar size proportional to list size (_that)
  • Allow scoll lists to render without a header (_that)
  • Make console scroll per pixel with kinetic scrolling (_that)

TWRP comes in handy for backing up your device, flashing ZIP files, and installing custom ROMs.

Rick Osterloh, Motorola's President, Says The Company Doesn't Have Any Tablet Plans This Year (And Other Tidbits)

Motorola's President and COO, Rick Osterloh, hosted a Twitter chat yesterday under the hashtag #AskRickO in which he answered a few questions regarding the company's expansion, release plans, device updates, and showed his current phone and watch setups.

The most interesting bit of information came in reply to Sumer Broota, who asked him whether Motorola had any plans to release a tablet this year. Rick said no and pointed toward Lenovo's line of Yoga tablets as an alternative.

WhatsApp Could Soon Back Up And Restore Your Chat History And Media To Google Drive

If there's one thing I learned from upgrading several family members' Android devices over the past week, it's that people are really attached to their WhatsApp history. While my smartphone days kicked off in 2007 with switching to a new review unit every couple of weeks (followed by flashing a new ROM at least once a week in 2011-2012) and learning to let go of everything I couldn't bother to move around, most users aren't accustomed to losing their data. They want their new device to have exactly what their old one had: their contacts, chat history, photos, music, and so on.
