Instagram 10.12 allows you to save live video after broadcasting it

Instagram Live is one of several ways to live stream from your phone, but it always had one catch - you couldn't save the broadcast after it was over. Both Periscope and YouTube mobile streaming support this feature. Thankfully, Instagram now allows you to save live video after the broadcast is over.

Samsung makes Bixby voice assistant official, coming first to the Galaxy S8

Samsung's S Voice has been limping along for years in the shadow of Google Now (and more recently Assistant). Today is the day Samsung starts to move beyond that with the official unveiling of Bixby. Samsung says this isn't intended to be a better version of data driven assistants (or agents, as Samsung calls them). Instead, Bixby is geared toward making interactions with your device faster and easier.

[Deal Alert] Several apps, games, and icon packs are free on the Play Store

Gather 'round penny-pinchers and avid Android lovers. There are deals to be had and none of them will cost you a cent. How 'bout that? You know Android Police's got your back. Without further chit-chatting, let's get started.

Apps

We had spotted Screenshot Pro and Quick AppLock Pro going down to $0 a few days ago, but now a lot of other apps by HDM Dev Team are getting the same treatment. We have an app to control your screen's rotation, a clipboard manager, both a call and a voice recorder, an "optimization" app, a blue light filter app, and the app that ties them all together "Magic Swipe Plus."

I haven't used any of these apps before, but they seem to be well reviewed on the Play Store.

Wrecked: This video "re-review" of Google Home is the saddest, funniest thing you'll see today

Google Home isn't a bad product (well, I don't think it is), but it's also far from a perfect one, thanks in large part to the fragmented state of Google's Assistant. While I could go into a breakdown of just why Google Home's version of the Assistant is inferior in some regards to the one on your smartphone, sometimes a 30-second video really can encapsulate the frustration of being an early adopter of technology.

I'll let Android Police alumnus Ron Amadeo take it away.

[Deal Alert] Grab the Sphero Star Wars BB-8 for $88.81 on Amazon ($150 MSRP)

I don't have kids, I've never seen Star Wars (I keep saying I'll watch them to rectify my nerd cred score, but two full-time jobs, a new apartment, and wedding preparations sorta leave me with no free time), and yet I still want this Sphero Star Wars BB-8 robot. I mean it's cute, it's a robot, it does things, and it does them with Android. What's not to like? Oh, the price...

At an MSRP of $150, this was one rather expensive toy. At its average price of $120 over the past months, it was still above the impulse-buy threshold. As a matter of fact, the lowest price we'd previously seen it at was $100 around Black Friday.

[Deal Alert] Samsung Chromebook Plus on sale for $419 ($30 off) at multiple retailers

The Samsung Chromebook Plus was announced in January as part of the new generation of touch-friendly Chromebooks that launch with support for Android apps. It's a spendy Chromebook at $450, but it's already on sale after just a couple weeks. It's not a huge sale, but every little bit helps.

Instagram two-factor authentication rolls out more widely on Android

Instagram started rolling two-factor authentication one year ago. However, to the best of our knowledge, that feature didn't show up on Android or at least it was limited to a few users and accounts. We hadn't received any reports of it until a couple of days ago when we got a tip and we checked it out. Our tipster and several of us on Android Police can see 2FA in our Instagram settings now, but we're not sure if it's limited to those enrolled in the beta or if it's there for everyone.

If you go to your Instagram settings, you might see the option under the Account section.

HTC's U Ultra doesn't fare well against JerryRigEverything's wrath, proves that it's not great at anything

Despite its great looks, the HTC U Ultra wasn't very well received by the press. In his review of the U Ultra, David absolutely ripped the phone apart, saying that it's unclear why the phone exists at all, and that HTC should go back to the drawing board. One of David's complaints about the phone was how easily the display scratched. In his latest video, JerryRigEverything proves that there's a lot more wrong with the phone's durability than that.
