As expected, Sprint just unveiled their upcoming EVO 3D handset and the EVO View 4G tablet. Both devices will have WiMax capabilities on Sprint's "4G" network (there was no mention of LTE, as Sprint is rumored to be transitioning to). No prices were announced today, and the release was announced as "this summer" (we expect a June-July release to compete with the iPhone 5).

Microsoft announced today that they are filing legal action against Barnes & Noble, Foxconn and Inventec for their collaborative role in manufacturing the Nook Color. Why would Microsoft be suing for anything even remotely related to the Nook Color? As you probably know, the Nook runs a version of Android and Microsoft owns several patents which it claims Android violates. Microsoft says that anyone making an Android device needs to pay them, or else they are going to do as they have done today - and sue them.

While Cricket may not be the first (or second... or third...) US carrier you would normally consider signing up with, they have a deal on a variant of the LG Optimus One that certainly caught our attention. The LG Optimus C (we are guessing that C is for Cricket) is being sold off-contract for a mere $130 (after a $20 web discount and $50 mail-in rebate).
We have known for some time about a high-end 3D smartphone from LG that was among the manufacturer's upcoming high-end releases. Up to this point, the glasses-free phone had been referred to as the LG Optimus 3D and (along with the G2x and the G-Slate on T-Mobile) we knew it would be hitting shelves within the next several months. While the release date is still a mystery, we now know that it will be known as the LG Thrill 4G and will be exclusive (at least at launch) to AT&T in the US.
AT&T users who have been tethering their phones' data plans under the radar (either using MyWi on a jailbroken iPhone, or one of many apps like Wireless Tether for Root Users on a rooted Android phone) have been receiving a little nudge from AT&T asking them to sign up for a tethering plan - or face possibly getting signed up for it without consent.

A pretty wild (but completely plausible) rumor has arisen that Motorola's Atrix 4G phone (along with its Webtop dock) and XOOM tablet will be launching on Sprint's network next month. There had not previously been any indication that either of these phones would be tied to any network other than their current carriers (respectively) AT&T and Verizon.

A research firm is claiming that Sprint is not only transitioning to LTE, but that the process is already well under way. Supposedly codenamed by Sprint "Project Leapfrog," Gerson Lehrman Group says they have knowledge of Sprint's switch and that it will apparently take place over the course of the next three years.

Yes, all of that can be yours for a mere $589.99 and they are taking pre-orders now. The units won't be shipping until April 1 though, which is five days after the tablet is released everywhere else. In addition, amazon.com is now taking pre-orders on the same model. Their price is the standard $599.99 and you don't get a case, but you not only get free shipping, but there will also be no tax for most buyers - meaning the price that you see is the actual price you will pay.
