Google has just pushed a new version of Hangouts with version number 2.1 attached. With a whole point update we'd expect to see some notable changes – this one is not disappointing. Google is finally making SMS a bit easier to use, and is adding some completely new features.
Ryan is a tech/science writer, skeptic, lover of all things electronic, and Android fan. In his spare time he reads golden-age sci-fi and sleeps, but rarely at the same time. His wife tolerates him as few would.
He's the author of a sci-fi novel called The Crooked City, which is available on Amazon and Google Play. http://goo.gl/WQIXBM
The Nexus 7 is an inexpensive tablet already, but you can sometimes catch it on sale for a relative pittance. A refurbished 32GB N7 is currently waiting for you on eBay Daily Deals for $169.99. That's close to the price we recently spotted for the 16GB.
Most apps that stream video to the Chromecast come with support for a few sources like local storage, Dropbox, Google Drive, and so on. The new CloudCaster app comes with support for 23 different cloud sources, plus local content and DLNA files. You can even give it a shot for free.
CloudCaster certainly has a ton of file sources for casting, but it's only compatible with the Chromecast – the similar AllCast app supports DLNA receivers and other devices like the Fire TV as well.
Verizon takes its time getting updates out to devices, but today is finally the big day for owners of the LG G2 on Big Red. The OTA (version VS98024A) has started rolling out to devices, but don't get too excited just yet – Verizon is pushing the update in phases.

Simply getting the news is not enough – your news source should also not be horrible looking. The CNN app has long failed on that second count, but now it has a shot at redemption. CNN has updated its app with a Holo UI and support for multiple screen sizes.
The updated look has a proper action bar and a grid layout of stories. I'd hesitate to call it card-based, but it's close at times.
One of the most iconic games of the late 90s has finally come to Android. Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition re-launched on iOS a few months ago, but it was a rocky ride as licensing issues nearly killed the game. Now Android users get the chance to spend $9.99 to relive the glory days of Dungeons & Dragons-style computer RPGs.
Baldur's Gate is an epic RPG set in the Forgotten Realms.
