You can swing by Amazon's website any old day and purchase a Fire TV Stick for $40, but that's just the 1080p version. The 4K-compatible Fire usually costs $70. That's not the case today. Amazon Prime subscribers can get $30 off the 4K Fire TV right now.The 4K Fire TV is a bit larger than the 1080p Fire TV Stick, but it still just dangles behind your TV. It runs Fire OS, so you have access to Alexa and all the usual Amazon content. You're probably buying this one because you want to stream 4K video, though. You can watch UHD TV and movies through apps like Netflix as well as Amazon's own Prime library. At $40, the 4K Fire TV is the same price as the Fire TV Stick. Both AT&T and Sprint have already gotten the job done. Today, Verizon customers with LG's last removable battery flagship are getting the much-anticipated OTA.

The $10 unlimited movie subscription from app-based MoviePass seemed too good to be true when it launched a few years back, and indeed it was. MoviePass is in the process of imploding, but one of its European rivals has taken this opportunity to expand into the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK. Sinemia says its approach is sustainable, but it's also more expensive. You'll pay $30 per month for unlimited movies.

Samsung was among the first large tech companies to launch a smartwatch, and it ran Android before Android Wear existed. Samsung's interest in Android-powered wearables had waned since then. Now, it's all about Tizen despite recent rumors to the contrary. The Galaxy Watch drops the "Gear" branding, but it keeps Tizen. It looks like a real watch, like all of Samsung's recent models. Samsung is really embracing the watch aesthetic this time around, going so far as to make the device tick when you look at the watch face.

When you buy a phone, you don't want it to fall apart even if it's a "budget" device. The Pocophone F1 costs a mere $300-ish and comes with top-of-the-line internals. You can change the percentage at which battery saver activates, but apparently Google can do that, too. A substantial number of Pixel owners are reporting their phones have suddenly switched to battery saver mode when almost fully charged.

LG's phone release cycle has been a bit weird in 2018. It re-released the V30 a few times, and the G7 ThinQ popped up in several variants. Now, it's time for the long-rumored V40 ThinQ to make its premiere. LG has sent out invites to an event on October 3rd with the phrase "Take 5." That would seem to confirm a five-camera phone.

Times are changing, and you don't need to go anywhere near your TV to watch TV programming anymore. Of all the streaming options, Hulu probably has the most up-to-date content as it's owned by studios. There's even a live TV service that competes with the likes of YouTube TV. The app has been a little light on features, but the latest update makes some noticeable improvements. However, it's mostly aimed at the live TV experience.

There are plenty of options for turning your regular AC outlet into a smart plug, and you might even be able to turn it into two smart outlets with the right solution. The latest smart plug from TP-Link's Kasa brand is much bigger. The HS300 power strip offers six smart outlets, all controlled via the Kasa app or your favorite voice assistant. The product is pretty straightforward for those with a passing familiarity with smart outlets. You plug in the power strip, and your one dumb outlet becomes six smart ones. Each plug on the power strip is managed independently, so you can give each one a name, assign schedules, and turn it on or off without affecting the other plugs. The app also logs how much power each of those plugs is using. In addition, you have three USB ports that can output up to 2.4V.

It can be inconvenient to keep all your media stored locally, and there are plenty of cloud services that will save a few terabytes of data for a low monthly fee. Plex Cloud was designed to take advantage of that, offering a cloud-based server connection to stream your media. However, after pausing sign-ups earlier this year, Plex has announced the service will end on November 30th.

Xiaomi is a huge smartphone maker in many parts of the world, but not in the US. When the company announced its Pocophone sub-brand, there was some hope it could come to American shores. That doesn't appear to be the case, at least not officially. You can already purchase the Pocophone F1 from several US eBay sellers, but there are a few things to know before you do.
