Real Racing 3 Review: There Is A Good Game In Here Somewhere

Electronic Arts seems to be one of the most disliked game developers on any platform, so it doesn't take much for the internet to rise up in anger against them. The release of Real Racing 3 with its heavy in-app purchases was reason enough to hurl some vitriol at EA. However, the game is free to try and there are a ton of officially licensed cars to drive. So is it really that bad?

Gameplay And Controls

There's no need to bore you with every little detail of how racing games work. I will say that Real Racing 3 has plenty of event types including, cup races, speed challenges, drag races, sprints, and eliminations.

Newest Chrome Beta For Android Includes Experimental SPDY Data Compression Proxy For Faster Browsing

The recent Chrome Beta for Android update was notable for including password and form sync, but it turns out there is another feature lurking beneath the surface, and it's potentially a big deal. Google has built in a data compression proxy for Chrome that can reduce bandwidth usage by up to 50% on mobile networks. You'll have to do a little digging through the Chrome flags, but it's relatively easy to switch to the fast lane.

Just type chrome://flags into the address bar and enable the Experimental Data Compression Proxy. When that's done, all HTTP traffic will be routed through Google's SPDY servers where pages will be optimized for Chrome.

Net10 Caps AT&T Data At 1.5GB Per-Month, T-Mobile Remains Unlimited

AT&T is apparently cracking the whip when it comes to popular MVNO Net10. The company has announced on its site that new AT&T data caps went into effect on March 1.  From here on out, all AT&T SIMs on Net10 will be limited to 1.5GB of high-speed data on the "unlimited" plan. If you want more bytes, a T-Mobile SIM is your only option.

Net10 has always been a bit vague about how much data you can go through before hitting the soft cap. The language used in the blog post appears to indicate this change just moves the cap lower.

Canadian Start-Up Mobiroo Introduces "All You Can App" Subscription Service For Android Apps

There are a lot of Android users that don't much care for buying paid apps. This is doubly true since the old 24-hour return windows was replaced with a comparatively small 15-minute one. A company called Mobiroo seems to think it has the solution: subscribe to an all-you-can-download service for paid apps. It's a little bit like Netflix for apps, and it only costs $2.49 per-month. Of course, that's only a good deal if the service offers apps you actually want.

Mobiroo is essentially a third-party app store that has forged deals with various Android developers to include their content.

In the pantheon of devices bearing the name Nexus, there is one obvious black sheep. The Verizon Galaxy Nexus never really got the update love that GSM Nexus devices have, and there was that whole Google Wallet debacle. While the updates haven't been flowing quite like owners had hoped, a version of Android 4.2.2 is now rolling out to Verizon testers. It may only be a matter of time before the update is official.

The JDQ39 build of Jelly Bean brings updated radios to the Verizon Gnex, which it definitely needs. The new version will also include all the 4.2 goodies like quick settings, lock screen widgets, and photospheres.

[New Game] EA's Real Racing 3 Arrives In Play Store For Some Countries With Insane In-App Purchases

Everyone's favorite game studio, Electronic Arts, has released the third incarnation of its "hyper-realistic" racing series. Real Racing 3 is in the Play Store, but appears to be available only in certain countries right now. The North American listing isn't working for us, but the international version appears to be functional for at least some folks. Although, considering the bizarre new in-app purchase upsell, maybe you're not missing much.

The Real Racing series makes its name by licensing dozens of authentic cars. This time players have 45 different rides to enjoy from manufacturers like Audi, Bugatti, and Porsche. There are a whopping 900 regular events to race, and the game includes an interesting time-shifted multiplayer mechanic.

Falcon Pro Dev Resets Tokens To Free Up Space For New Users – App Back On Sale At More Reasonable Price

The ongoing saga of Falcon Pro and the great Twitter token shortage of 2013 has taken yet another turn. No, Twitter hasn't stopped being a jerk-face. Developer Joaquim Vergès has reset all the tokens for Falcon Pro in an effort to free up unused ones. This should (temporarily) solve the problem of new users being locked out.

This means that when users download the new update, they're going to be forced to log back in to Twitter. Because there are actually fewer than 100,000 active users, there should be enough access tokens to go around. Popular wisdom states that it was returns, former users, and pirates that were soaking up a large chunk of the tokens.

[New Game] HeroCraft Releases Protoxide: Death Race Only 18 Months After Teasing It

The developer has added some neat features for users of a few select devices. If you're on Android 4.2, Poweramp now has a proper lockscreen widget. There is also experimental support for Samsung's MultiWindow mode, which is cool if you've got a Galaxy Note II or some versions of the Galaxy S III.

Pocket Casts Gets Massive Update To 4.0 With New UI, Smart Playlists, Tablet Support, And More

There are a number of popular podcast solutions on Android, but those apps are about to get some fresh competition with the release of Pocket Casts 4.0. This app has long had solid features, but it wasn't quite able get the same traction as Doggcatcher or BeyondPod. The new version might do the trick, though.

As with the old version of Pocket Casts, this app uses server-based refreshes to keep your podcasts updated. It's faster, and it now has the added benefit of being able to sync your subscriptions, playlists, and play states across devices. The interface has been completely redesigned with a slick Holo look and feel for v4.0.
