WiFi routers are seeing a complete renaissance the last couple of years thanks to mesh networks, and eero was one of the first to spearhead this movement. This June, eero released the 2nd generation of its routers and these are the ones being discounted now.The 3-router pack is the most discounted, dropping from $499 to $439.99. The router + 2 beacons pack is down from $399 to $356. And finally the router + 1 beacon pack is down from $299 to $267.99. The discounts may not be huge, but for a super recent product that has never dipped in price, this 10-12% off is a good deal especially if you were already considering getting a mesh system.eero's 2nd generation routers have tri-band WiFi (2.4GHz, 5.2GHz, 5.8GHz) while the beacon only has dual-band (2.4GHz, 5GHz). Other specs include 2x2 MU-MIMO, Beamforming, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Thread 1.1 Border Router, and Bluetooth LE 4.2. They also offer DHCP, NAT, VPN Passthrough, UPnP, Static IP, and Port Forwarding. While I don't understand 90% of those acronyms, the gist of it is that they seem to have a lot of options. That's validated by their 4.3 rating on Amazon and overall positive reviews you can read anywhere online. (I know Stacey Higginbotham loves them, and that pretty much seals the debate for me.) Plus, the Android eero app is super well rated and you know what, they use USB-C for power. That's one company that has moved with modern times! If you're interested, you can grab them from the links below.Source: Amazon: 1 eero router + 1 beacon, 1 router + 2 beacons, 3-eero pack

I love music but I was definitely not blessed with a musical ear that's able to peel away layers and guess notes from one listen — a conclusion that took an excruciating 7 years of piano and keyboards lessons to get to. However, I am always trying to bring out the engineering mind inside me to figure out the exact way a song is built. That's why I'm fascinated by Google's latest experiment, Inside Music.

Some of you exclusively use their Google Voice (GV) numbers, some have differentiated between friends and colleagues by giving their regular number and GV number separately to each set of contacts, and some might use the GV number occasionally for a few contacts only. Regardless of your case, sending texts from that GV number has been pretty hit-and-miss when it comes to Android Auto, Android Wear, and Assistant. But that should be fixed soon.

Every now and then, Runtastic throws a bone to active and sporty people by discounting its Pro apps to zero. That's zilch. No pennies, no dimes, no dollars. It's happened with Sit Ups ProPedometer Pro, Road Bike Pro, and now is the time for Mountain Bike Pro.

We haven't heard a lot from Android One lately, but it seems that the program is catching on in several countries like Japan and Turkey. You can add India to that list, as well as several dozens other countries thanks to the announcement of the new Xiaomi Mi A1.

Oh Lenovo, Lenovo, Lenovo. I don't wish unemployment on anyone, but I think it's time you fired your product naming and branding team. After the massive headache of the new Moto names, now comes this "Home Assistant Pack" that, unlike what you might think, has nothing to do with Google Home or Google Assistant, but as a matter of fact, works with its competitor voice service, Amazon Alexa. Was "Alexa Thingamajig Pack" taken by another company?

When David wrote his first impressions of the Note8, he mentioned one feature of the Apps Edge that lets you create a shortcut to immediately launch two apps in split-screen. And that got me jealous. See, I don't use multi-window on my phone all that often, but on my tablet, it's a different story. I'm often editing Android Police's posts, which requires Chrome and a Google Docs file to be open at the same time so I can take notes. But I have to manually open these and set them up each time. A shortcut would be a welcome simplification of that process.

Completely wireless earbuds are everywhere at IFA this year, and so is the voice assistant war. While Google Assistant is busy getting its foothold into many speakers, Alexa is expanding into headphones and earbuds and the latest to join its rank is Bragi's The Dash series.

Look, no one likes going back to school more than parents. If you're feeling a little guilty that you're relieved the little ones are now out of your hair and back under the supervision of teachers and principals, then you may want to give them something to enjoy in the weekends or the afternoons. And that something could be a nice game for them to play on your their SHIELD TV. If so, NVIDIA has some discounts just for you.

Instagram says that over 250M people use its Snapchat-like Stories every day, even more than the 200M that were reported back in March. But Stories so far were tied to the mobile apps and that limited their visibility to users. Now, Stories will start showing up on the mobile website as well. (The desktop site still doesn't have them.)

You may know Duolingo as the company who makes one of the funnest language learning apps, but a year ago, it also released TinyCards, a flashcard app, on iOS. It took a year, but now the app is available on Android too.

While most of us here on Android Police use third-party launchers for their added customization options, many users stick with the default launcher that comes on their device because it does the job well enough. One of the reasons I switch to Nova is gestures, because I love swiping down on the homescreen to open the notification panel, since reaching the top of the display can sometimes be cumbersome, especially one-handed.

According to our frequent tipster Gurkanwal Singh, Twitter beta 7.12 has started showing a new night mode toggle and QR code icon. If you might remember, Twitter's night mode used to have a proper toggle in the side menu and the QR code display and scanner was hidden under the overflow menu when viewing your profile. The latter was really difficult to get to and nowhere regular users would guess.

At its IFA press conference, Sony announced several new devices and importantly, it also let us know which existing phones will be updated to Android Oreo 8.0. For the past few years, Sony has been one of the best (if not the absolute fastest) companies at updating its existing portfolio of devices to the new versions of Android, even keeping relatively old phones on top of the update cycle in relatively fast manner.

The good news keeps piling up for owner of Sony's latest badass-est flagship, the Xperia XZ Premium. Not only did they discover it's one of Sony's most durable phones to date, but they can also benefit from better AOSP ROM development on it thanks to the Open Devices program, and now they'll also be able to watch Netflix content in HDR on its beautiful display.

Blu devices aren't having the best time lately, what with the whole privacy and alleged spyware story and their sad update track record that's left almost the entire lineup at Marshmallow. But the value for money proposition of Blu is still nice and for a non-geeky user, their devices might still carry a lot of appeal. Besides, the spyware snafu seems to be resolved now. So keep that more positive outlook in mind as I tell you about the new VIVO 8.As far as I can tell, this is Blu's first Nougat 7.0 device (I could have sworn one phone got an update to Nougat, but I can't find any info on that now). I'd say it's 'bout time, why isn't it even 7.1, and don't hold your breath for Oreo. Blu is boasting an 87.5% metal to body ratio, thanks to CNC polished aluminum on the back, minimal plastic, and a curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the front. It has a 5.5" 1080p display, 13MP Sony IMX258 back camera and a 16MP front camera, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage plus MicroSD slot, and a MediaTek 6755 Helio P10 2.0GHz processor. There's a fingerprint sensor, "ultra quick" 9V/2A charging, and thankfully Blu didn't skimp on the battery like most brands and fitted this one with 4010mAh. Unfortunately, it charges with MicroUSB and not Type-C.The VIVO 8 is compatible with GSM networks and has 4G and HSDPA+ connectivity. It is already available for purchase in either black or gold, and it should retail for $299. However, now and for the first two days, you can get it for $199 on Amazon at the link below. That's not a bad price at all.Source: Blu, Amazon

Assistant's history with screenshots is long and fraught with complications. First, Now on Tap added a screenshot option, then it was removed and re-added when it was renamed to Screen Search, and when the Assistant came, the screenshot option was nowhere to be found but it was added again through Assistant's What's on my screen feature. But it looks like Google has made it even easier to take a screenshot and it no longer requires special know-how.

Robots are cool and, when designed and executed properly, robots can be quite endearing and awesome. But at $2800 a pop with very little added benefits, this one is definitely straddling the line to absurd territory.
