Just under a week after receiving almost unprecedented support from the Android community to fund the purchase of new build servers, the CM team has begun pumping out CM9 nightlies for a handful of devices. There's no question - the CM team is moving quickly, and the release of so many nightlies in such a short time span is exciting, to say the least.

Koushik Dutta, in a Google+ post earlier this evening, expressed appreciation, confirming that CyanogenMod "was able to purchase 3 top of the line, ridiculously geared, build servers," which will soon have an automatic build schedule.

Adding to the heap of pre-MWC goodies we've seen lately, NEC decided to show off three of their new Android-powered phones today in Japan, and if nothing else, the devices look interesting.

The first thing that jumps out is the strange gizmo on the far left – it appears to have 2 displays back to back (when folded), and is labeled as the "best cloud device," hinting at easier cloud connectivity.

MWC is still a few days away, and we're already starting to get some pretty great information on the devices that will shape the mobile electronics world in 2012.

Adding to the list of pre-MWC news items, the Italian blog Telefonino.net has posted a series of videos and photos, showcasing LG's complete Android lineup for 2012, from the LG Optimus 4X HD (which we mentioned yesterday) to the Optimus 3D MAX, to the Optimus LTE.

You may remember a couple of weeks ago when we covered an app by Scalado called Remove that, well, removes strangers from your mobile photos. The app is officially scheduled to debut to the public at this years Mobile World Congress, but ABC News' This Could Be Big segment gave the software a quick hands-on ahead of time:

Remove, as explained in the video above, works by taking multiple photos of a scene and highlighting unnecessary foot traffic/unwanted objects, wiping them out quickly and easily, and patching them with the background your photo was supposed to have.

The developers at int13.net introduced Shogun Rise of the Renegades to the Android Market today, bringing "bullet hell" gameplay reminiscent of Japanese arcade games from the 1990s to the palm of your hand.

For those not in the know, the Japanese sometimes call "bullet hell" style games "danmaku," referring to insane shooters in which players can generally expect most of the screen to be filled with flying bullets.

Shogun definitely delivers on this reputation, providing a continuous stream of chaotic scrolling shooter action.

OrangePixel (the geniuses behind Meganoid and Stardash) released a new game to the Market today, bringing a retro-inspired side-scrolling shooter to Android with Neoteria.

In the words of OrangePixel, Neoteria is a shmup: a classic horizontal shoot em up. The game relies on a quick thumb, meaning players will need to have plenty of finger strength to shoot through the thousands of aliens and multiple, 80s-inspired environments Neoteria offers.

OrangePixel warns that "100% completion is not for the weak or casual gamer," noting that as players progress, they can unlock new pilots and difficulty modes, or discover hidden worlds.

LG has officially unveiled the Optimus 4X HD, a rather impressive Ice Cream Sandwich-powered phone which ended up being too exciting to keep under wraps until MWC.

The Optimus 4X HD features NVIDIA's Tegra 3 processor (in all its 4-Plus-1 glory), and a handful of other powerful specs. A full list of specifications hasn't been released just yet (and presumably won't be until MWC), but here is what we know so far:

  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Tegra 3 Quad-Core Processor at 1.5GHz
  • 4.7" IPS display at 720p
  • 8MP rear camera and 1.3MP front shooter
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB onboard storage
  • 2150 mAh battery
  • Razor thin 8.9mm thickness
  • SHSPA+ 21Mbps connectivity

As things stand, the Optimus 4X HD is slated to be LG's first Ice Cream Sandwich-powered phone.

The Tegra 3, NVIDIA's awesome quad-core processor (introduced last November) has been a hero of the mobile electronics world in recent times, making possible amazing mobile gaming, buttery smooth interactions, and better battery life. Until now, though, the only way to describe the chip's innovative architecture was to use its technical moniker – variable symmetric multiprocessing (vSMP). Today, however, NVIDIA coined the term "4-Plus-1" to more easily describe the configuration.

For those unaware, the Tegra 3 uses four cores for resource-taxing activities like gaming, while its low-powered "ninja core" lays back, ready to handle simpler tasks like e-mail processing or standby operation.

T-Mobile and Samsung announced just moments ago that the Galaxy S Blaze 4G that was unveiled at CES earlier this year will be available beginning in "late March," priced at $149.99 (after $50 mail-in rebate card) for two-year agreements with qualifying voice/data plans. The S Blaze 4G will be a T-Mobile exclusive device, and will evidently include T-Mo's 4GPro App Pack, meaning the phone will come with apps like Dropbox, Evernote, Square, TripIt, Camscanner, and LinkedIn preloaded.
