Jury Awards Samsung $0 In Damages, Finds Apple Not Infringing On Any Patents

If you're anything like us, you've been closely eyeing the Apple v. Samsung verdict as it was just read (a bit sooner than expected). While Apple won just under half its requested sum in damages, and swept up a handful of patent infringement victories, Samsung had some patent-related bones to pick with Cupertino.

In a broad motion, the jury found Apple not to be infringing on any of Samsung's purported patents, awarding Sammy a grand total of $0.00 in damages to be paid by Apple. Samsung's patent claims were primarily against the iPhone, iPhone 3G/s, and the iPod Touch, including the '711, '893, '406, and '516 patents.

ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 Owners Across Europe Receiving Jelly Bean OTA

After ASUS' US-bound Transformer Pad 300 (TF300) got its taste of Jelly Bean OTA goodness – and subsequent full-fledged firmware download – owners of the tablet's international (or WW) variant were stuck furiously pressing "software update" in hopes of getting their own OTA. Well, it looks like ASUS has made dreams come true, at least across Europe. Just earlier today, ASUS UK officially put users on the lookout via Twitter:

Following that tweet, users have confirmed the OTA rolling in in countries including (but not limited to) Germany, Slovakia, Spain, the UK (of course), Greece, Portugal, and Northern Ireland.

ASUS Transformer Pad TF300's Full Jelly Bean Firmware (US Version) Now Available For Download

Keeping true to its reputation for timely updates, ASUS pushed out an official Jelly Bean OTA update to lucky Transformer Pad TF300 owners in North America last Saturday after a quick tease. Now, under a week later, it looks like ASUS has provided the full firmware for download directly from its support site.

The download, which those who didn't receive the OTA (due to an unlocked bootloader or otherwise) can use to get to ASUS' clean Jelly Bean experience, weighs a hefty 438MB and is meant only for users of the US version of the TF300. It's worth noting that using ASUS' downloadable firmware to upgrade to Jelly Bean will break root and overwrite any custom recovery you may be running.

Jelly Bean (4.1.1) OTA Leaks For T-Mobile's Galaxy SIII (T999)

After catching sight of Jelly Bean for Samsung's Galaxy SIII on video, then seeing a leaked build for the i9300 pop up on XDA, it looks like T-Mobile's variant of Sammy's latest powerhouse has its own leaked Jelly Bean goodness.

Earlier today, XDA user LuffarJoh posted up what seems to be an early (though enticing) OTA file for T-Mobile's Galaxy SIII (aka T999) that will bring your device up to 4.1.1. While it's exciting to get a hold of Jelly Bean for T-Mo's SIII a little it early, the OTA (which carries build JRO03L) is not without its caveats.

T-Mobile Officially Acknowledges Google Maps Reboot Bug, HTC And Google Said To Be Working On A Solution

Last week, after Google Maps received a public transit-minded update, it became apparent that the app wasn't playing nice with the HTC Rezound. Befuddled user reports spilled in, relaying tales of inexplicable reboots and crashes. As always, the community found a solution but, unfortunately, the only solution ended up being the "uninstall updates" button.

T-Mobile today acknowledged the Maps update's issues with certain handsets, posting a support document related to the HTC Sensation 4G's problems with the app. The solution T-Mobile suggests? Hit the "uninstall updates" button. While a somewhat disappointing answer for Maps users hoping to use the app's latest iteration in peace, the post did have some good news.

Facebook Gets Updated To Version 1.9.8 With Event Creation, Revamped Photo Upload Flow, And More

Facebook's official app for Android got a nice update today, bringing with it just a few changes, though the enhancements it does bring do make the app just a tad more intuitive and functional.

The update includes a new event creation interface that allows users schedule events of all types in a snap, choosing locations, times, and privacy settings all from one screen. Also included is a "new upload flow" for sharing photos. This may sound vague but the idea is that, with the new update, Facebook's "photo" action (when you check in or simply choose to upload a photo from the main screen) will dump you into a list of all the photos on your device, allowing you to tap as many as you like for upload at once.

Galaxy SII 4G Coming To Boost Mobile's Lineup Promising "High-End Speed And Performance Without A Contract"

In a press release on behalf of Boost Mobile and Samsung Mobile today, it was announced that Boost's lineup is soon to be enhanced by the addition of the Galaxy SII 4G. The SII 4G, which initially debuted back in 2011, is just what you'd expect from a Galaxy SII variant: a 4.5" Super AMOLED Plus display, dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 8MP camera (with a 2MP front-shooter), and 16GB internal storage. Unlike its older counterpart, however, Boost's SII 4G will be shipping with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

While a bit dated, the SII 4G is still a powerful device, and its addition to Boost Mobile's lineup will be great for Boost customers who want a capable device "without the stress of a contract." From the PR:

“Together with Samsung we continue to launch compelling device options from entry level to 4G-enabled smartphones to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” said Andre Smith, vice president-Boost Mobile.

Google Brings TrueView In-Stream YouTube Advertisements To Mobile Devices

In a post to Google's Mobile Ads blog today, YouTube Group Project Manager Phil Farhi announced that those pre-video, skippable advertisements you've seen on YouTube (they're officially called TrueView in-stream video ads) are quick on their way to mobile devices.

Fahri cites greater ROI as the primary benefit of multi-platform ad exposure through YouTube and its associated mobile experiences, also noting that "today, most of us watch video on our smartphones and tablets, as well as our PCs." This consumption-oriented behavior pattern's spread across multiple platforms effectively opens the door for what Fahri calls "multi-screen campaigns," which not only expose viewers to an advertiser's campaign across multiple devices, but also – and perhaps more importantly – improves brand recall.

Sprint's Samsung Epic 4G Touch Receives Minor OTA Update To Build FH13

The phone with the name everyone loves to hate – Sprint's Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch – began receiving a minor (and I mean minor) software update over the air today.

The OTA, which carries software build D710.10S.FH13 (for reference compare to the E4GT's Ice Cream Sandwich build D710.10.S.FF18), brings just one thing to the table: battery life enhancement.

Just how enhanced users should expect their battery life to be is unclear as yet, but being able to squeeze just a bit more life out of your handset is never a bad thing.

If an update prompt hasn't already hit your device, you can always check for the OTA manually by paying a quick visit to your phone's Settings menu and hitting About Phone followed by Software Update.

[Leak] HTC Droid Incredible 2 Gets Its Own Ice Cream Sandwich ROM Based On Leaked RUU

It looks like another one of HTC's handsets (besides the Thunderbolt) has gotten a Sense-ified Ice Cream Sandwich ROM of its own – today, XDA user nitsuj17 posted a ROM for the Droid Incredible 2 (aka vivow) allegedly based on another leaked RUU from HTC. Readers may remember the Incredible 2 as being among devices officially slated by HTC to receive Ice Cream Sandwich "by the end of August," so this leak's timing isn't too hard to figure out.

The ROM, which carries Sense 3.6 over top of Ice Cream Sandwich and software build number 7.01.605.01, is the stock HTC fair you may expect, but with a few tweaks ranging from root to removal of HTC's inconvenient app association settings.
