Now that the Galaxy Note II has been released in select European countries alongside a few other places around the world, Samsung has released the kernel source code for the device, along with other open source software components.

Although the kernel source will be of little use to regular consumers initially, ROM developers may be able to use it to ensure that their software performs as well as it can do on the phone. That means better performance and more stability, so even if you aren't a code aficionado, this is still good news for you.

If you're interested in taking a peak behind the scenes of the Galaxy Note II, you can download the source from Samsung's open source release center now.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II, which started to ship in international markets during the past week, has just received its first firmware update, enabling multi-view mode to take advantage of the phone's huge 5.5-inch display.

The new firmware will allow users to view two windows at once, without constantly switching from one app to another. If, for example, you were watching a movie and you received a text message, you'd normally have to leave the movie app to open the messaging app. Now, if you have both apps open side by side, you can do both at once without being interrupted.

Car manufactures and consumer electronics companies have been growing closer than you might think over the past few years, with self-driving concept cars being demonstrated with remote control from a smartphone in mind. This is more obvious than ever at this year's CEATEC in Japan, where manufacturers such as Nissan have taken to the stage and shown off some really cool technology.

One of the company's latest concept cars, the NSC-2015, highlights what can be done when your car and smartphone are on the same wavelength. With the help of a Samsung Galaxy S III, the NSC-2015 is able to enter 'Park-In' and 'Park-Out' mode, to save you from the hassle of parking your car in a busy car park.

Just a month after releasing its new 'durable and splash-proof' Xperia Tablet S, Sony has found that some units have gaps between the screen and the aluminum case, making them particularly vulnerable to water damage.

The issue has been caused by a manufacturing flaw at the Chinese plant where the tablet is produced, and as a result, Sony has chosen to temporarily stop selling the device until the problem can be resolved.

Although the Japanese company is trailing behind competitors, such as Samsung, in the tablet market, 100,000 units of the Xperia Tablet S have already been sold across Japan, Europe, and the United States.

death-race-inspired-game-carmageddon-making-its-way-to-android-in-the-summer-of-12

If you were one of the many people looking forward to playing Carmageddon on your Android device this summer, you may be disappointed to learn that you'll have to wait slightly longer than expected.

Despite earlier promises that the Android port would arrive 'shortly after' the game's iOS release this summer (it's currently waiting for Apple's approval before it hits the App Store), the developers have now said that the game won't be available on the Play store until late 2012 or early 2013.

Unfortunately, we don't know the cause of the delay, or whether promising it 'shortly after' the iOS edition was too ambitious in the first place.

Orange and T-Mobile UK, the two companies forming the new 4G EE network in the UK, have launched three 4G capable Android phones today.

That means that if you're an Orange or T-Mobile customer, you can now buy the Samsung Galaxy S III LTE, HTC One XL, or Huawei Ascend P1 LTE on contract to ensure that you're ahead of the game before 4G goes live in the UK at the end of this month.

Update: EE will launch on October 30th, as per Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE:

We are delighted to announce that the official launch of our new customer brand, EE, offering the UK’s first superfast mobile 4G and fibre broadband service, will take place on the 30th October 2012.

When the original Galaxy Note came out in the UK, it was met with a certain amount of skepticism from consumers. However, Samsung obviously knew what it was doing, as the device has gone on to sell really well. Fast forward a few months, and it's time for round 2: the Galaxy Note II comes with a bigger screen, a more comfortable aspect ratio, and it's available from today on Three.

The cheapest monthly plan for the phone is £34 for the 'Ultimate Internet 500.' That gives you truly unlimited data, 5000 text messages, and 500 minutes every month. If you want more minutes, you can choose to opt for the One Plan instead, which will put you back £36 a month and bump you up to 2000 any network minutes and 5000 same network minutes.

Smartphones are great; they organize our lives, provide us with news and information, and keep us in touch with friends no matter how far away they may be. Smartphone gloves on the other hand? Not so much. They don't do a great job of keeping your hands warm in the cold weather, and they aren't exactly renowned for their comfort.

Fortunately for Xperia sola users, Sony has you covered. The Ice Cream Sandwich update for the sola, which began today, includes a new feature called "glove mode" which, you guessed it, allows you to wear any pair of gloves and still use your smartphone.
