Not content to wait for manufacturers to get in to shape and update our phones to the latest and greatest versions of Android, most of us here at Android Police have had a brush with a number of custom ROMs in the past.

Whether it's the latest version of Cyanogen or a more obscure mod, there is always a ROM floating around on my phone, and until now I've always had to uninstall one before installing the other. Fortunately, that's about to change thanks to a new application on the Market called BootManager.

This article deals with a couple of advanced topics.

There are a number of security applications available for Android, such as WaveSecure and Lookout, which lock down your phone if it is lost or stolen, but few come close to being as secure and robust as Theft Aware 2.0.

We took a look at the application at the end of last year, and were thoroughly impressed by its ability to take advantage of rooted devices, installing itself into the system partition of your phone so that it isn't affected by even a full system wipe. It's also completely invisible on rooted devices, not only in the app launcher, but also in the app manager, to protect itself from being uninstalled.

Motorola_XOOM

We've seen some great deals on XOOM as of late, with Staples offering the tablet for just $450 brand new earlier this month, and a refurbished model going for a mere $399.99 a few days later.

If, despite those deals, you still haven't pulled the trigger on the XOOM, this latest offer may just tempt you even further. Daily Steals is offering the tablet brand new with Wi-Fi and 32GB of storage for just $429.99 plus $5 shipping until the end of the day.

Although the price may not be as low as the refurbished one from a few weeks ago, it certainly is a rock bottom price for a new tablet which is still very capable with a dual core 1GHz processor and 1GB RAM.

Did Asphalt 5 and Asphalt 6 not quite cut it for you when it comes to racing games on Android? Can I not tempt you with N.O.V.A. 2 either? Fear not! Gameloft is back with a new title, GT Racing: Academy Free+, which is available to download right now on the Android Market.

Although the title is free, you will probably have coughed up some money by the time you've finished playing. In-app purchases include XP multipliers and credit packs to buy new cars, of which there are 111. It's probably safe to assume that the in-game models are somewhat cheaper than their real life counterparts, though, so there is a realistic chance that you'll be driving a Ferrari by the time you're done.

Are you looking to get in on some of the 4G action that's going around nowadays? If you've been holding off in search of a cheaper deal, then you may want to take a look at this latest offer for the HTC Thunderbolt from Wirefly.

If you purchase the Thunderbolt with a new Verizon account, you can get a taste of the carrier's first 4G device for just $59.99 - almost half the price of the previous deal we saw a couple of weeks ago. Despite the fact that the Thunderbolt still runs Froyo, this is a great deal for those of you yet to buy in to 4G handsets.

Us Brits are pretty hard off when it comes to data plans. Tariffs may not be as expensive as they are in the States, but you can expect to have a pretty tight data allowance when you purchase a smartphone on this side of the pond.

Although most carriers don't allow more than a few GB per month, Three UK has recently launched the One plan, which offers truly unlimited data on all plans which are £35 a month. The plan has proved popular with the iPhone and Android phones, and it seems as though other networks may finally be thinking about following suit.

Just in time for the release of the HTC myTouch 4G Slide, T-Mobile USA has announced its new Value plans, which will be available from July 24 with up to 10GB of high speed data to make smartphones more affordable for the masses and less confusing for customers.

If you sign up to a two-year agreement with the network, you will be able to choose a plan which offers a selection of talk options, unlimited texting and unlimited data. That unlimited data doesn't have any fair usage policies attached, but it will only be high speed for the first 2GB, 5GB or 10GB that you use, depending on your plan.

Before I begin, let's please drop the pretense. This is the internet and nobody knows who you are, so don't sit there and pretend that you don't miss Winnie the Pooh, because EVERYONE misses Winnie the Pooh!

You probably already know this, but a new Winnie the Pooh was just released in the States , so Disney has released an Android application to promote the film and delight your kids - and you - at the same time.

The application is more of a digital book than a game, but it incorporates puzzles as the story progresses, which you have to solve along the way.
