Verizon has taken some flack lately for being the only US carrier to lock the bootloader. Workarounds have been implemented, but Samsung's taken it a step further by announcing a developer version of the device. Today they...well, they haven't quite made good on that promise, but they have created a landing page for the device on their site that announces the 32GB Pebble Blue version will be "coming soon".

Earlier this week, we mentioned that the amazing folks behind the XBMC project are bringing the app to Android. Well, it's still very early, but would you like to see what it's gonna be like? Of course you do. If you've got a Nexus Q or an Android-compatible set top box, you can download the apk from our mirrors below. For the rest of you, here's what it looks like running on a lovingly hacked Nexus Q, courtesy of Cyanogenmod developer Jason Parker:

The interface is still very much centered around arrow keys/a d-pad.

fujifilm

When you try to think of companies that have a motivation to sue over smartphone patents involving Android, Fujifilm may very well be close to the bottom of the list, but you'd be wrong. The company has recently filed a lawsuit against Google subsidiary Motorola Mobility for infringing four of its patents.

The brouhaha began back in April 2011 (for those counting, that's a solid four months before Google even announced its acquisition of the company).

Sprint

Sure, Sprint may be considerably behind the big dogs in the whole LTE rollout thing, but hey, they've already started selling devices with LTE support. Might as well light it up, right? Well, if you live in the Dallas Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, or Kansas City markets, and you own a Sprint LTE phone, you might be surprised to find that you have LTE access now.

According to Sprint 4G Rollout Updates, which has a pretty good track record, users have been reporting that their devices are discovering LTE networks in their areas.

We've been eagerly awaiting information on when the Nexus 7 will be shipping to individual customers. Well, it looks like the wait is nearly over. If you were to call Google's help line right now, you'll get an automated message saying that orders have started shipping now and that all pre-orders should ship within the next 3 business days.

Here's the full message:

"We're now shipping Nexus 7 pre-orders. The first wave of orders are going out today and all pre-orders are scheduled to ship within the next 3 business days.

When we first discovered Slice, the app that scans your email for packages that you're waiting to be delivered, has updated to version 2.0 and brought a host of new features with it. For starters, if you use Hotmail, AOL, or iCloud as your primary email, you can now join in the fun. You can track outgoing packages by scanning tracking barcodes as well or entering the number manually, and filtering options have been improved.

Ok, maybe an app that lets you stream all available episodes of Futurama would be cooler, but this app allows you to fulfill your third-greatest fantasy: creating a cartoon likeness of your head in a pickle jar on your phone. The app also has a selection of alien and robot heads and features to let you experiment with your creativity.

The app does things right by not just keeping the images saved in the app, but also allows you to use the jar heads (not to be confused with Jarhead) as background images or set them as contact photos for the people you're modeling them after.

IMDb is already one of the most awesome movie apps on the market. With the world's largest and most popular catalog of who's-in-what and which-came-out-when, IMDb has single-handedly solved that whole "I recognize his face, but what was he in?" problem. Today, it's getting even better by adding support for the oft-forgotten IMDb message boards, providing recommendations based on your movie tastes and, perhaps best of all, Metacritic scores.

The Metacritic scores are perhaps the most exciting, as the site is one of the better opinion aggregators out there.

Rovio's newest game, you know the one that has neither birds nor pigs, Amazing Alex has finally landed in the Play Store. The game, which centers around a bright youngster named Alex and his fascination with using Rube Goldberg machines to accomplish tasks. The game, much like Angry Birds Space, is available in three variants on Android: a free, ad-supported version, a $0.99 paid version, and then a $2.99 "HD" version.

Well, so much for the idea of a patriotic-themed launch party for this device. Still, if you're on AT&T and you're excited about getting your hands on the exclusive red version of Samsung's latest and greatest flagship phone, your wait is about to be at an end. In a few short days, starting on July 15th, AT&T will be offering the device en rouge via pre-order on its site.
