HTC just tweeted that EVO 4G users who downloaded the unofficial Froyo build but for whatever inexplicable reason have not yet manually upgraded to the official build will be getting it via an OTA update, starting today. I appreciate HTC’s dedication here, but I think this probably the smallest target device group for an OTA ever.

If you’re still on the unofficial version and can’t wait for the OTA update, you can download it directly here (read the instructions in this thread).

It’s hard to say if it called for a full-blown press release, but Samsung today issued a statement announcing the availability of official Samsung-branded accessories for Galaxy S devices in the US.

What kind of goodies can users expect? Well, as the title suggests, Samsung has produced some very shiny photos of a desktop dock, a car dock/charger, and a spare battery charging system (they’ve apparently caught on that many Android users go through multiple batteries in the course of a day).

With the release of the DROID 2 fast approaching, the death of Motorola’s first Android phone was an unavoidable casualty in the name of progress. While the DROID platform lives on in the Milestone and Milestone XT, a certain piece of Android philosophy has died today with the DROID. Verizon’s website shows the DROID is no longer available:

The DROID 2 will undoubtedly ship with yet another iteration of Motorola’s now-infamous encrypted bootloader, and without the flaws that made the rooting of the DROID X possible.

When Google closed up shop at their now ghost-town of a webstore, Nexus One owners were left without an outlet for official accessories, particularly the elusive HTC Nexus One Car Phone Holder (aka car dock).

With eBay sellers demanding upwards of $200 (and that’s used) for a device that once retailed for $59.99, it seemed Google and HTC had hung Nexus One owners out to dry. But now, HTC’s US online store (run by LetsTalk.com) and its UK sister site are offering up Nexus One goodies, Car Phone Holders included, once again.

Nexus-One

While the Nexus One has officially been discontinued stateside on Google’s website, it seems Google’s first (and probably only) phone will be headed to the cluttered desks of more Android developers as Android’s newest official developer phone.

N1dev

The Nexus One has clearly enjoyed preferential treatment from the Android team since its release, but the decision to dethrone the Google Ion (aka ADP 2, HTC Magic, MyTouch 3G) is more than anything a statement to third-party developers: Get away from previous generation phones.

It was only 5 days ago we offered up our readers licenses to tenCube’s phone security and locator app, WaveSecure. We were utterly impressed by the app’s rich feature set, and its clear focus on presenting itself in a professional and well-polished fashion.

Apparently McAfee was of a similar opinion. In a lengthy press release (shown below), McAfee announced they had acquired tenCube (who develop WaveSecure). What does it mean? We’ll probably be seeing a McAfee-branded WaveSecure hitting the Android Market fairly soon, perhaps sporting some exciting new features.

We’ve just received word that the EVO4G OTA to FroYo (internally known at HTC as update 3.26) is now available for download directly from HTC’s website. Link below.

Update #1: we just received another word from HTC that this is NOT the final update. The final is going to go out next week.

Update #2: all your settings should be preserved with this OTA. No data loss should occur.

ExtendedControls - Power Control On Steroids

Do you like Android’s native Power Control widget? Are you unable to go through the day without using it more times than you can count? Do you wish it had a few more buttons (for things like Airplane Mode, or a flashlight) and that they could all fit in one row?

The following post by XDA member scuccia popped earlier today on the HTC Droid Incredible section of the XDA forums:

Here is a Stock 2.2 ROM with Sense based off the upcoming Froyo OTA. This is completely stock with the additions of su, Superuser.apk and busybox.
Everything has been confirmed working. Camera, camcorder, Wifi, bluetooth, GPS, MMS, etc...
A full wipe and 2.x radio is required.
If you don't have a 2.x radio already you can find instructions instruction here.

Tmonews has leaked a T-Mobile retail partner sales FAQ in which it is explicitly states that T-Mobile will never again stock the Nexus One in their retail stores.

nexusonetmo_wm

This would seem to be the last nail in the coffin for the Nexus One’s US tour, though it is still sold abroad in the UK and South Korea. While the document doesn’t explicitly preclude the possibility of online sales, “The Nexus One was sold and marketed by Google” is pretty damning.
