Samsung has finally made an official statement regarding its plans to upgrade current handsets to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android version 4.0), and the short list is indeed quite short:

In a court filing last night demanding an early trial date for the ongoing Google v. Oracle patent litigation, Oracle claims that Android is now irreparably harming Java's market share in the mobile, TV, and tablet space. Oracle says that these are areas where Java "has traditionally been strong." News to us.

The blogosphere is currently aflutter with talk of the ITC (International Trade Commission) patent infringement decision in favor of Apple, and the resulting court order banning the import of infringing HTC devices starting April 19, 2012 (4 months from now). The ITC ruled that HTC infringed on two, relatively narrow claims in a patent related to "data tapping" that occurs at the system level in Android.

It's official: AT&T-Mobile will not be happening any time soon. AT&T, the US's second-largest wireless carrier and all-around communications mega-corporation, after months of attempting to convince consumers and federal agencies alike that the deal was going to be good for everyone, has given up its plans to purchase T-Mobile, a division of Deutsche Telekom.

Monday is here, and we've got another great giveaway opportunity for our readers. Today, we're giving away a Galaxy Tab 10.1 with a pair of Etymotic mc2 headphones and a copy of Gameloft's brand-new game, Modern Combat 3. Four lucky runner-up winners will receive a free copy of Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, as well.

After months of wondering and looking around for answers, we think we've finally found out why all of Verizon's 4G LTE phones (and modems / USB dongles) are having data connectivity issues, and it's a wee-bit technical even for us, but we'll do our best. This information has been gathered from various comments and forums across the net, so, take us at our word here.

You thought we'd stop the prize train because it's Sunday? Well, here at Android Police, we give away awesome stuff seven days a week during the holidays, so we've got a bag of goodies for you today, courtesy of RadioShack.

This afternoon we have yet another developer book giveaway, this time you'll be entering to win one of ten copies of Sams Teach Yourself Android Application Development in 24 Hours (2d Edition) by Lauren Darcey and Shane Conder, thanks to our friends at InformIT.

Another day, another giveaway. Today, we're holding another one of our "lightning" giveaways, which will continue until tomorrow, December 18th at 11:59PM PST. For your consideration, we have two Archos tablets: the Archos 80 G9, and the 101 G9. Both come in the 8GB "Classic" trim and are equipped with TI OMAP4 1GHz dual-core processors, Android 3.2 Honeycomb, and allow for up to 7 hours of video playback. They're both equipped with kickstands as well, so there's no need to go buy a costly tablet folio to enjoy some hands-free video watching. We're giving away one of each model, brought to you by our friends at Archos.

The Toshiba Thrive and I don't exactly have a great history. And that's probably putting it mildly. In fact, in my first review of Toshiba's first Tegra 2 tablet (yes, I had to write a second one) earlier this year, I panned it so hard that I basically just started textually abusing the poor thing. So, at the behest of commenters and colleagues, I rewrote it. My revised review (here) was a little less harsh, but I'll be the first to admit: I didn't like the Thrive, and after spending even more time with it after the review, my feelings were unchanged.

Our final giveaway today is another of our developer-oriented contests, and we're giving ten copies of the massive programming reference book Android Wireless Application Development by Shane Conder and Lauren Darcey, thanks to our friends at InformIT. Again, we ask that only developers or those interested in learning Android development participate, so that they can start making even more awesome apps for the rest of us.

Are you ready for another awesome giveaway? This may be our best one yet (but trust us - we've got some even better ones coming), and once again, it's open to a whole host of countries around the world (we've added a few more EU countries, so check the eligibility list). For your consideration, today we have 3 Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 bundles up for grabs, which include the Tegra-powered Galaxy Tab 8.9, Jambox wireless Bluetooth speaker, and $25 AMEX gift card. Once again, our pals at NVIDIA have put together an amazing prize package for our readers.

Our second, and last, giveaway for today is a little more literary than the offerings we've had so far, and really, is pointed more towards those who are looking to get into Android programming and development. So, we do ask that you only enter this contest if you actually want the book, because there aren't many Android giveaways out there aimed at the developer crowd. And don't worry devs, this isn't the only InformIT title we'll be offering as part of our Mega-Holiday Giveaway - it's just the first.

Another day, another awesome giveaway. Once again, our truly amazing pals at NVIDIA are providing the Tegra-powered tablet goodies. Today, we're giving away four tablets: 2 Sony Tablet S's, and 2 ASUS Transformers (the Transformers also come with the truly great keyboard docks) - and every winner will also receive a $25 AMEX gift card to purchase some of those sweet Tegra Zone games the day their prize arrives. This is an international contest.

Update: We've also got the images for the newest update to the Galaxy Nexus, Android 4.0.2:

We love Dead Zebra's Android figurines - especially when there's a limited edition one up for grabs, like the awesome new Toy Soldier (which is sold out for now, unfortunately). Andrew Bell of Dead Zebra has kindly given us five of these little guys to hand out to hand out to our readers.

Oh, you thought we'd be doing just one mega-holiday giveaway a day for ten days? You thought wrong. Now, we realize the first contest we held today was for our US readers only, so we're going to give the international crowd some love with this one. You can thank our friends over at NVIDIA who are always happy to offer some Tegra-powered awesomeness to our worldwide audience, this time in the form of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB Wi-Fi edition. In addition, our pals at Logitech have tossed in their wireless Bluetooth Tablet Mouse and Tablet Keyboard set to ensure you get all the productivity you can out of that new Tab.

First off, this is all in good fun. Any intelligent person could draw the conclusions this author did based on what was happening at the time, and with the limited information available about Google's plans for Android. We're posting this because it's funny to look back on it with some hindsight.

And so it begins - Android Police's First Annual Mega-Holiday Giveaway Series. For the next ten days, you'll have chances to win all sorts of awesome Android phones, tablets, and other goodies. (As a note to our international readers, this first contest features prizes that don't work outside the US, but don't worry, we have some more stuff coming for you later today.)
