Netflix Coming To Android

Well, this is certainly promising news! According to this official Netlifx job posting they’re looking for:

“a great engineer to help us build Instant Streaming client implementations on Android devices.”

Oh yes, you read it correctly, we have official word that Netflix will be coming to an Android device near you.

I’m an avid Netflix user and use their Watch Instantly service at least a few times a week on the Xbox 360 – in fact, their service was more or less single handedly responsible for my decision to cancel cable television. Between their massive library of great (and sometimes not so great) movies and TV shows available for streaming, and the occasional torrent (don’t tell anyone!), there’s really no need to continue feeding the old media beast.

Google Turns On Universal Suggest In Mobile Search

Today Google announced universal search suggestions on the mobile version of their search page. It has been enabled on all major smartphone platforms, so even our iPhone carrying “friends” should be able to partake.

Google first made this change on the desktop version of the search page back in December, and while it was neat, I can’t say I’ve really played with it since it was released. This probably has more to do with the fact that I just control+K to the search bar in Firefox or Chrome rather than visit the search page itself. If you missed the original announcement, universal suggestive search provides real time information in the drop down box that appears when you begin typing, in addition to the regular search term suggestions.

Nexus One car dock

Finally - The Official Nexus One Car Dock Available At A Whopping $55

The Nexus One became available for sale on January 5th. The Nexus One Desktop Dock accessory was on sale a little over 3 weeks later, on January 27th. Finally on April 6th, almost exactly 4 months after the release of the phone, Google has announced that the car dock is available for purchase.

We were teased with glimpses of the car dock in Google’s Nexus One video series ‘The Story’, specifically in the 5th video titled ‘Day One’ (embedded below).

I’ve yet to find any reviews of the dock, but I suspect we should see quite a few by the end of the weekend.

Rumorville: Expect The HTC EVO 4G To Drop In June And Your Wallet To Go On A $10-20 Monthly Diet

The EVO 4G news is continuing to roll in, though I’m using the term ‘news’ loosely. Engadget is reporting today that Sprint’s upper management is talking about a potential June 6th or 13th launch date, with the 13th seeming more likely to get some hot 4G action.

Engadget is definitely one of the more trustworthy gadget blogs out there right now, but they can only peg this information on ‘intel’, so at this point it does not appear that anything is set in stone. When Sprint first announced the EVO 4G, they simply mentioned summer as the target release date which fits this report but I haven’t been able to find anything that has convinced me to remove my skeptic hat.

Droid Owners Have A Bittersweet Week

It’s been both a good and bad news week for Droid owners.

The Good News

The coveted Android 2.1 update has finally officially arrived to the device.

Android 2.1 was first available only on the Nexus One, a move that Google took some flack for. They were instrumental in pushing the Droid, and shortly after its release late last year, Google announced their first Google branded Android device, with features that other Android owners wouldn’t see on their phones for quite some time.

The Droid is the first major phone other than the Nexus One to receive an official update to 2.1, though it’s been available through unofficial channels for both this phone and others (even the G1 has a 2.1 update available) for quite some time.

Digg Diggs Android!

Social news sites are all the rage nowadays, and Digg.com is pretty much the one to beat.

A few minutes ago they graced us with an official Android app, hot on the heels of their iPhone app release.

The fact that Digg was working on an app wasn't much of a secret, due in part to the fact that a few beta testers also installed AppAware, which reported users installing something called "com.functional.digg.app".

I've gone ahead and attached a few screenshots I took for those that like to look before you touch, but the app is available now, in the Android Market, for free.

Samsung To Add A Keyboard To The Galaxy S And Another Syllable To The Name

Samsung Galaxy S Pro. That's a mouthful. It is also a beauty (supposedly...the picture below is just a render).

According to the legendary Eldar Murtazin, the editor of Mobile-Review and a well respected tech journalist, Samsung's going to be tacking on a keyboard to the already lustworthy Galaxy S. Because none of the good things in life are free, the privilege to have actual keys to pound on while you're definitely not texting and driving (really officer, I wasn't) will cost you additional 50 Euros (That's around $67 for those of us in the States).

The keyboard is really just the icing on the cake Eclair.
