About Cameron Summerson

Cameron is a self-made geek, Android enthusiast, horror movie fanatic, musician, and cyclist. When he's not pounding keys here at AP, you can find him spending time with his wife and kids, plucking away on the 6-string, spinning on the streets, or watching The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on repeat.

It's been a while since we've seen a new set of those little Android figurines that everyone loves. After a long wait, however, Series 3 will be available at 8AM PT today. This collection, of course, brings all new faces to our beloved mascot, and the Dead Zebra guys have really gone above and beyond this go around, as some of the designs are incredibly intricate. Here's a quick look at what you'll get out of Series 3:

The Redbox movie and video game rental kiosks that seem to be at every McDonald's, Walgreens, Walmart, and umpteen other locations across the country are easily one of the most convenient ways to get your entertainment fix. If Redboxes in your town are anything like they are in mine, however, there's always a line of people. Instead of standing around waiting for you chance to grab The Cabin in the Woods, though, you could fire up the recently updated Android App. It's much, much better and far more useful than it used to be.

It has been quite a long while since I've heard the name "LG Optimus Black," but it seems that Team CyanogenMod hasn't forgotten about this once-powerful handset. The first CM10 nightly for the 4" handset just showed up on Get.CM, and unlike other CM10 devices, has made this jump directly from CM7.

Motorola made some changes to its firmware update timeline this morning. It looks some ICS updates have been delayed, while others that were once promised are now undergoing evaluation. Here's a look at what changed.

Anyone who reads this blog often knows my disdain for touch-controls on mobile games. There are a few titles out there that are intuitive enough, like NBA Jam, Dark Meadow, and Horn, but past that, most games are just awkward to play. Thus, if a game supports it, I usually use some sort of controller, be it Bluetooth or USB. While that's practical enough at home, large controllers are too cumbersome for gaming on-the-go. Enter a new Kickstarter project called the iMpulse Game Controller that's looking to change that.

There's a good chance that the bulk of you completely missed the RAZR i announcement. Why? Because it was held in London and happened in the middle of the night for those of us in the US. Never fear, though, if you simply must see Moto talk up the RAZR i and all of its 2GHz glory, the full event is now available for streaming on YouTube.

$99 is a good deal for a solid mid-range device like the Droid RAZR M. That makes $50 a steal. And that's how much you can now get it for at Wirelfy, regardless of whether signing a new contract or re-upping your existing dedication to Big Red.

If you have a Galaxy Note on T-Mobile, you're probably worried about things like device updates, considering T-Mo basically ditched it after only a couple weeks of availability. Worry not, because the CyanogenMod team is here to save the day: just one week after the custom Jelly Bean build showed up for the AT&T and International versions of the Note, CM10 Nightlies are now available for T-Mo's variant of the device.

If you walk into AT&T right now to buy the HTC One X and sign a new agreement, you'll not only be overrun by people trying to get the new iPhone, but pay $100 for it. Here's a better idea: stay home, head over to Amazon Wireless, and get the same phone for just $20 (if you're opening a new AT&T account). You'll avoid the crowd, standing in line, and having to listen to some salesman tell you to buy some other phone that's not nearly as good. You know which one I'm talking about.

Last week, we gave you a glimpse into what David uses: his favorite gadgets, accessories, apps, and all the other tech junk that he doesn't go a day without. Now it's my turn. With this series, you'll see how different each member of the AP team is when it comes to how we use our gear, which is one of the best things about Android: it's versatile.

Today's the day, Galaxy Nexus owners - Verizon just updated its support documents to reflect the long-awaited Jelly Bean update. From what we're hearing, the OTA is already rolling out, so you should be able to pull it down right now. You'll just need to jump on Wi-Fi and head into Settings > About phone > System update.

Three of the biggest TV-streaming apps in the Play Store - Hulu Plus, MAX GO, and HBO GO - were all updated within the past couple of days with eerily similar changelogs that include one key feature: support for closed captions. Past that, both HBO GO and MAX GO received "performance enhancements and bug fixes." Hulu, on the other hand also got support for "social sharing of videos and shows."

We've seen more and more endless runner-style games show up in the Play Store, and, up to this point, they have all seemed basically the same. Enter Subway Surfers, a fun and whimsical take on the runner genre that just made its way to Android from iOS.

Looks like ASUS is gearing up to announce the second iteration of its Turducken phone, the Padfone. A save the date for October 16th was sent out this morning to numerous Italian blogs, highlighting a dual-announcement - one in Milan, Italy, and another in Taipei, Taiwan, which is where ASUS is headquartered.

Back at the end of May, a gaming accessory company called PowerA announced a new Bluetooth gaming controller for Android phones called the MOGA. At the time, release date and pricing information wasn't yet available, only that the controller would be released "before the holiday season." Looks like PowerA met that deadline, because it just officially announced the MOGA would be hitting the streets on October 21st for $50.

MetroPCS just announced a new 4G smartphone from ZTE for its ever-expanding 4G LTE network. Dubbed the Anthem, this new handset offers mid-range specs under a 4.3" 480x800 display, including a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and Android 2.3. Past that, the pay-as-you-go carrier was overly-scant on details, but we'll assume it's packing 1GB of RAM and some sort of camera (5MP, maybe?).

Many users - myself, Artem, and several other AP team members included - got an error just a bit ago stating that "There is a problem communicating with Google servers," but this issue seems to only be affecting Jelly Bean devices. Makes perfect sense, too -  looks like Google Now is the only thing currently down, as Talk, Drive, GMail, Calendar, Movies, Music, Magazines, Books, Maps, the Play Store, and pretty much all other Google Services are currently fully functional.

Well, that was fast. The Note II was just announced for the five biggest US carriers this morning - Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular - and the latter already has its pre-order page ready to go.

Back in May, Liam spent some hands-on time testing out a then-new app called CallApp. Dubbed as a sort of supercharged caller ID, CallApp gives detailed info about who's calling you (or who you're calling), by pulling information from various social networks and the web.

Sprint just began pushing an OTA to its variant of the Galaxy S III that brings a few bug fixes and enhancements, as well as the inclusion of the SWYPE keyboard.
