Hot on the heels of Best Buy's daily deal, Amazon wireless has dropped the prices of all its GSIII models to match - with one exception. Instead of knocking Spring's GSIII down to $50/$99 for the 16/32GB respectively, it's now $0.01/$50 for new customers. That's basically a free GSIII!

It's hard to say if this is a permanent change or just something temporary in order to compete with Best Buy, but one thing is certain: this is the best deal we've seen yet on any version of the GSIII. Hit the link below to grab it.

Inductive charging is quickly becoming one of those clutch features that everyone wants in their next smartphone. Since a few phones - like the Nexus 4 and HTC Droid DNA - already have the feature, one crafty reddit user decided that he wanted to install his wireless charger inside of his desk. Neat, right? He also took a few snapshots along the way, highlighting just how easy the process was.

We're hearing reports that the charger used in the project - the Nokia DT-900 - has issues with the Nexus 4. If you plan on trying this or something similar, you'll probably want to spring for a different charger.

As always, the closer we get to the holidays, the more deals we see. It's anything but uncommon to see one-day super deals pop up just before Christmas, and today Best Buy is offering the Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon variants of the 16GB Galaxy S III for just $50 and 32GB for $99 (Verizon only) with a two-year agreement. T-Mo customers are stuck paying a bit more, with the 16GB handset coming in at $80 and 32GB variant for $130.

Of course, this deal is for today only, so if a GSIII is on your - or a loved one's - holiday wishlist, head here to take advantage of it.

Looks like we jumped the gun on this one - turns out regular 10.1 nightlies aren't actually yet available for the GS, and the solitary build was triggered manually as a test. Sorry to get your hopes up, guys!

Up to this point, we've only seen official CM 10.1 nightlies show up for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10, but an unlikely device just got its first taste of Android 4.2: the original Galaxy S (I9000). The builds are currently marked as "experimental," so if you're looking for something stable, this probably isn't the best direction to go.

Definition: A "nightly" is a bleeding edge release that is built on a daily basis, usually at night after a full day's worth of new code has been committed.

Yesterday, the gift card redeem page went live in the UK's Google Play Store, suggesting that gift cards will be hitting the scene relatively soon. It looks like Google is already gearing up for launch, as the option just showed up in the mobile Play Store, as well.

1

Of course, there's still one major problem: Play Store cards can't yet be purchased anywhere in the UK. In fact, they're not available anywhere aside from the U.S. for the time being.

Given the evidence, however, we fully expect that El Goog will officially announce Play Store gift card availability in the UK fairly soon.

As of late, it's been apparent that Motorola has been trying to make good on its promises of offering more timely updates. The RAZR M was the first to get its bump to Jelly Bean, and was followed by the RAZR/MAXX HD. Now, it's the Atrix HD's turn.

Beginning today, AT&T and Motorola are pushing the Android 4.1 OTA to the device, which brings a handful of improvements over ICS, including Google Now, Project Butter for speed improvements, and enhanced notifications. Of course, Motorola has thrown some tweaks of its own into the mix, as well - like Drive Smart, Quick Settings, and more.

sitegeist

If you're like me, you like to know things about your location. Sure, most of the crap you want to know is trivial, but it's still fun -- and that's basically the entire idea behind a very cool new app called Sitegeist. In a nutshell, this app gives you all sorts of different info about your current location, including:

  • Average age and sex of the town's residents
  • Average number of children per household
  • Average income and political contributions
  • Weather - current conditions, average temps, record temps
  • Fun things to do
  • Median age of homes, median home value, and average rent
  • ...and more

Not only does the app provide some really useful information, but it looks damn good doing it.

Update 5: It's official – PowerA has run out of free MOGA systems. In a post to Facebook on the matter, PowerA assures readers that "Santa still has something in his bag for you," so we may see another awesome deal soon.

Update 4: Well this has been a roller coaster – it seems the promo code is once again working.

Update 3: It looks like while PowerA is online, the site is no longer offering the MOGA controller deal.

magazines

Google Magazines has to be one of my favorite services from Big G. I've always been a big fan of magazines in general - they just provide a different experience to the traditional blog format (oh how the tables have turned, right?). Now, all our friends across the pond can begin enjoying this fantastic service, as well.

1

Officially announced last night by Google UK, the service is now available in the Play Store for UK residents. It's stocked with over a hundred different magazines to choose from, including Glamour, Hello!, Men's Fitness, and more.

To get a better look at all the different choices, fire up the Play Store and hit the "Magazines" link.
