Update: It appears that I misread the Dolphin Blog the first go around - version 5 doesn't block in-browser ads, the in-app ads have been removed. I apologize for the misinformation.

The final version of Dolphin Browser HD 5 landed in the Android Market this morning, and it brings a whole slew of bug fixes and improvements along with it. Among the many improvements is one that most users will be quite happy about - Dolphin HD now blocks all Google Ads within web pages without the need for an add-on, making your browsing much simpler, as well as using less bandwidth Dolphin HD is now ad-free!

Apparently Motorola is in the middle of a site redesign. Exciting, right? Pff... no. But the contents that were discovered because of said site redesign... now that's pretty exciting. PocketNow has acquired some images of the new site that display some upcoming Moto devices, including the XOOM 2, a couple of new handsets, and, curiously enough, a watch.

Let's start off with the new phones: the Slimline and the Zaha (shown above, respectively).

Last Updated: October 10th, 2012

It looks like US Cellular's Android family is going to grow a bit over the next couple of weeks, as two new phones will be hitting the shelves: the HTC Merge and LG Genesis.

Even as a mid-range device, the HTC Merge is one that needs little introduction, as it has seen the spotlight on more than one occasion. Nevertheless, here are the specs of this lil beauty:

htc merge-101119-02

  • 3.8 inch 480x800 Super LCD display
  • 800MHz processor
  • Global Ready
  • 512MB RAM
  • 5MP rear camera with 720p video capture
  • 2GB built-in storage
  • 8GB SD Card
  • Physical QWERTY
  • Android 2.2

The LG Genesis is a dual-screened, full keyboard sporting flipper that just so happens to be a US Cellular Exclusive.

If there's one thing that annoys us all, it's trying to use a device outside in the sunlight - on some devices it's almost impossible to see the contents of the screen without contorting into all sorts of odd positions to create just the right combination of shade and viewing angle.

However, display maker Pixel Qi is looking to change the game with its newly-announced duo of screens: a 7 inch 1024x600 and 10.1 inch 1280x800, both of which are low power and highly readable in outdoor light.

In this line of work, I get the chance to write about things that are new and exciting. Other times, however, that's just not the case. There are times when writing about certain subjects just makes me sad... and this is one of those times. Sure, it may be good news in a sense, but the fact that I am sitting here, on May 31, 2011, reporting an update to Android 2.1...

Remember DroidDream - one of the worst malware apps that we've seen since Android's inception? Well, it appears that the developer of said malware is back at it again, with a  reported 25 infected apps (so far) found in the Android Market. Dubbed DroidDreamLight by the Lookout Security team, this infection is a stripped down version of its predecessor. Make no mistake, though - that doesn't mean it's any less malicious.

Shadowgun_04

Android has really grown quickly in the realm of mobile gaming, especially with the influx of Tegra 2 phones and tablets. Keeping that momentum going, Madfinger (creator of Samurai 2) is currently working a new game optimized for Tegra devices called SHADOWGUN. There will be two version of this game - one for Tegra 2 devices, and one that takes advantage of NVIDIA's next-gen Tegra 3 processor, the quad-core Kal-El.

Update: Now with video (thanks, Nick!).

It seems that a lot of Android tablet news is coming out of Computex already - we've already seen the Padfone and Eee Pad MeMO 3D from ASUS, the ViewPad 7x and 10Pro from ViewSonic, and now, the WIndPad 100A from MSI.

The 10.1 inch WindPad 100A sports a 1280x800 IPS display with an unnamed ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processer under the hood, but we're guessing it's most likely the Tegra 2.

If you've been looking for a 7 inch tablet without the bells and whistles of the HTC Flyer or the newly announced ASUS Eee Pad MeMO 3D, then it looks like ViewSonic may have your number, as it has just announced its newest Honeycomb tablet: the 7-inch ViewPad 7x.

The ViewPad 7x is pretty cut-and-dry as far as Android tablets are concerned - just in a smaller package.
