HTC Wildfire S_

T-Mobile announced its newest midrange handset today: the HTC Wildfire S. The Wildfire S is a great middle-of-the-road phone for anyone on a budget, with somewhat modest specs:

HTC Wildfire S_

  • 3.2 inch 320x480 display
  • 800MHz single-core processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • SD Card slot
  • 5MP rear shooter
  • Android 2.3 with HTC Sense

It may not be the hottest phone on the planet, but at least it has a decent amount of RAM for multitasking, and Android 2.3 runs great on slower hardware (I'm trying to be optimistic here).

htc-g2

The T-Mobile G2 has seen its fair share of ups and downs, teases, and leaks of Gingerbread, but it appears the time of release is nearly upon us. A user over at the T-Mobile support forums has dropped a leaked version of the official Gingerbread build for the G2 for all to download and install. The post puts strong emphasis on the fact that this is the exact same version that ended up on some refurbished handsets - so I assume that it's the real deal.

The-Google-Samsung-Nexus-S-4G

In a move that feels oddly reminiscent of Verizon announcing the iPhone (read: announcing a nearly year old device), AT&T just told the world that it would be getting the Samsung Nexus S, which is immediately available for pre-order from Best Buy for $99 with a two-year agreement.

This version of the Nexus S is lacking HSPA+, which makes it exactly like the T-Mobile version that landed in December of last year.

According to market research firm Strategy Analytics, Android now holds 30% of the tablet market, which is a massive jump from 2.9% in Q2 of last year. This can certainly be attributed to the slew of Android-powered tablets released in the last several months, like the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Acer Iconia Tab A500, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and HTC Flyer/View 4G.

This time last year the iPad was top dog, with 94% of the tablet market in its pocket.

Battle_Realms_PC_coverart

Fans of the classic game Battle Realms have a real treat coming sometime next year (I know, that's still a while from now, but good things come to those who wait), as Liquid Entertainment is bringing a version of the game to Android. It's not the same style of Battle Realms that you fell in love with years ago, however - it's going to be a collectible card style game set in the traditional Battle Realms world.

The successor to the odd little tablet that is the Notion Ink Adam is set to hit the streets in December 2011 and will be featured at CES in January 2012 in Las Vegas, according to Notion Ink founder Rohan Shravan. Hardware details for the Adam 2 are pretty scarce right now, but we're hearing rumors that it could include the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor and an updated Pixel Qi display that allows for better use in direct sunlight.

This is definitely a good deal for anyone who has been waiting for a rock bottom price on a new tablet: using this coupon, you can get $100 off any tablet at Staples. $300 ASUS Eee Pad Transformer or Acer Iconia Tab A500 anyone? How about a $400 Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1? Or maybe you're into the Dell Streak 7 for a mere $200?

Either way you go, this deal is almost impossible to beat, so print the coupon and head to your local Staples now (it ends on 7/30)!

mytouch-4g-slide_thumb

The recently-announced HTC myTouch 4G Slide that's set to land on T-Mobile's HSPA+ network sometime this month has already fallen victim to Wirefly's crazy price-slashing mania that they company is so well known for. Right now, you can pre-order the myTouch 4G Slide for $150, which is $50 less than Team Magenta is selling the handset for.

2011-07-20 09h45_04

The myTouch 4G Slide is HTC's latest entry into the 'superphone' market, with some pretty impressive specs:

  • 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • 3.7" SLCD 800 x 480 display
  • 768MB RAM
  • 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash
  • 1080p video capture
  • Full QWERTY keyboard
  • HSPA+ connectivity
  • Android 2.3 with Sense 3.0

While those specs are about as high-end as they come on modern smartphones, they're not the only thing that sets the myTouch 4G Slide apart, as HTC also added some flare to the camera itself:

  • Improved low-light Performance: with a backside illuminated sensor and a wide aperture lens (f/2.2)
  • Zero shutter lag: innovative software features allow for an instantaneous shot at that precise moment
  • SweepShot: for capturing panoramic shots by sweeping across an entire scene in a single motion
  • ClearShot HDR: for capturing objects in bright settings so your photos are not affected by high-contrast lighting
  • BurstShot: for capturing multiple photos in a quick burst so you don’t miss the perfect photo

There you go - if you're into taking awesome pictures with your smartphone and you're lookin' to score the hottest thing on T-Mo, then this is the deal for you.

Lenovo finally made its Honeycomb-sporting IdeaPad K1 an official commodity - and it's basically just another fish in a sea of Android 3.1 tablets. It's filled with the nearly-identical hardware guts of the top Android tablets on the market today:

  • 10.1 1280x800 display
  • 1GHz Tegra 2 chipset
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16/32GB on-board storage; SD Card slot
  • MicroHDMI
  • WiFi
  • Optional 3G (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint)
  • 5MP rear camera; 2MP front
  • Android 3.1

Of course, Lenovo has made a few changes to add its own custom touch to the device, like the Lenovo Launcher: a five-pane launchpad dead-smack in the middle of the screen that allows quick access to a user-customizable set of shortcuts.

Everyone who knows me is aware of my absolute love for zombies. If there's anything that I love more than zombies - it's fragging the ever-living hell out of them with an array of weapons that would impress even the most violent-minded among us. It's not very often that I get the opportunity to do such a thing, but Biofrenzy: Frag The Zombies brings that exact experience to my handheld.

Biofrenzy is a 2D sidescroller where you fight for your life against a seemingly endless hoard of flesh devouring bio-infected freaks - but not without a massive arsenal at your disposal.
