About Cameron Summerson

Cameron is a self-made geek, Android enthusiast, horror movie fanatic, musician, and cyclist. When he's not pounding keys here at AP, you can find him spending time with his wife and kids, plucking away on the 6-string, spinning on the streets, or watching The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on repeat.

Back in the Froyo/Gingerbread days, GO was my go-to launcher. It had more features and better performance (in my opinion) than any of the other options. After Ice Cream Sandwich, however, I kind of forgot about it.

We knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any less weird to me. Samsung is now rolling out an update to the original Galaxy Gear that effectively removes Android, replacing it with the company's self-built mobile OS, Tizen (which is what the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit are all running). This immediately raises one question in my mind: since "Galaxy" is Samsung's branding for Android devices, will it just be called "Gear" moving forward? Something to ponder on your Friday morning.

The number of Bluetooth speakers I've looked at in the past year (give or take) is vast. As a result, I feel like I have a good understanding of what's available on the market, as well as what offers the most bang for the buck. As time has gone on, I've started holding each new speaker to a higher level, because the competition is just too stiff not to. Manufacturers absolutely have to one up the other guys if they want to stand out in this saturated market.

Smartphones are probably some of the most personal devices on the planet. They hold our contacts. Our family photos. Our, um, personal photos. Text messages. Private conversations. Many of a person's secrets could probably be uncovered with a little exploration of their smartphone. So, what's the best way to keep things safe on your smartphone? With a little security, of course.

I've long dreamed of the day when I can get in the car and go places without having to actually pay attention to my driving (or other drivers around me). To be able to use my laptop, phone, or tablet; watch a movie, read a book, or any of the other things I'd rather be doing instead of driving would be fantastic – and make long road trips much more bearable. Thanks to Google's self-driving car project, that reality is getting closer than ever before. The company recently took the time to show off its first prototype car, and it's...interesting looking. It reminds me of some sort of plaything. Like a Power Wheels car, or one of those Little Tikes cars with the pedals – you know, the red and yellow one. But I digress, it's still pretty cool. Check it out:

If you like cars that go way too fast beside (or at least near) each other, there's a good chance you're into some form of auto racing. While that in itself can be a pretty expensive hobby, you can supplement your desire to drive way too fast with games on your smartphone. Yes, I know it's not the same thing, I'm just trying to save you a few hundred thousand dollars, OK? If you insist on doing the real thing, that's fine with me.

You guys like streaming Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, and lots of others to your TV, right? Of course you do, because bigger is better when it comes to watching movies, videos, or TV. It's a scientific fact.

Since the launch of the Moto X, there have been two available storage options: 16GB and 32GB. For some users, 32GB just isn't enough without an SD card slot (seriously though, what are you guys doing with your phones?). Fortunately, it looks like Moto may be gearing up to launch a 64GB variant of the X, which looks to be available with a $100 price bump over the 16GB version.

Most places love to hold sales over Memorial Day weekend, as it's sort of the unofficial start of summer. Those deals aren't exclusive to brick-and-mortar retail stores, of course, and some really nice bargains readily pop up online.

Oh, EVGA. I know you're new to this whole tablet thing, but you should seriously watch your automated email system just a little bit better.

Telltale Games' The Walking Dead: Season One is a great game. It's a decision-based game where the choices you make during the zombie apocalypse affect what happens next. If you haven't played it, I highly recommend it.

We've already seen that Google is working on some pretty incredible things with Project Tango, the space-aware smartphone project that's essentially capable of capturing 3D maps of indoor locations. The team behind Tango – Google's ATAP – is already working with NASA to use prototypes in autonomous robots to aid astronauts on the Space Station, but now it looks a Tango-esque device could be coming a lot closer to home than that.

If Samsung's streaming music app has become your go-to source for all things audio, then that means two things: you're part of some exclusive club of Samsung owners that has been given access to the app because your phone is cool enough, and you actually care about Milk updates. Unfortunately, only a portion of this update concerns users who are already part of the aforementioned club:

It took me a really long time to jump on the reddit train. I would look at it occasionally, but only in recent months have I really started to enjoy using it. Part of that is due to Reddit Sync – it's just a killer, well-designed app that I wanted to use more after covering its UI overhaul back in December. Ever since then, I haven't gone a day without firing up the app and checking out what's happening across the 'net.

Hey guys, how's the ol' Optimus G Pro holding up? Pretty well? Good news! That guy is about to get even better, as AT&T is pushing the Android 4.4.2 OTA starting now. That brings about a bunch of new features, including some battery improvements, Project Svelte (which just generally makes things faster), and more.

I'm a big fan of CCleaner for windows. In fact, I use a few Piriform applications (Speccy is the best). Thus, I immediately opted into the company's beta program when it launched CCleaner for Android. It's a simple application, but it's still packing some useful utilities under a name I trust.

Titanfall fans, do you want to show your gamer love? Of course you do! And now you can display the love for the game with your wallpaper!

While Chrome Beta users have been on version 35 for the last several weeks, those who prefer to stay with the Stable build are finally getting a taste of what's been cooking under the beta hood for a while now. This includes some navigation enhancements, improved video support, and a few others.

Since his departure from Cyanogen, Inc., Koush has been a pretty busy guy. Yesterday, he released AllCast Receiver to the Play Store, an app that essentially turns any Android device into a casting target, a la the now-extinct CheapCast. Today, he pushed an update to AllCast that brings a couple of new features, including Google Play Music streaming and the previously-teased headphone mode. Check out the latter in action:

If you're dead set on getting a tablet but not dropping a penny over $100 on it...then you can't really expect to get a top-of-the-line gadget. If you're aware of what a Benny will get, however, then this deal may be one for you. For today only, you can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite from eBay Daily Deals for one, single, solitary hundred dollar bill (free shipping, too). Well, you can't actually send them a bill, but you get the idea. It's $100. It's worth mentioning that this is, of course, a refurbished tablet.
